My Pro Action Shocks
I have a 2013 CVO Road King, with 12" premium....i weighted 220 with my riding gear, i hate my rear shocks, they are too stiff at the lowest setting, i have a set of Progressive Suspension 440 13" that i buy for my previous 2008 FLHTC , they ride about the same as the stock air shock, if you change them during the night without telling me, i see no difference at all....
I make a test, i put the Progressive 440 on the Road King and don't like em at all.
I start to read this forum, wanting a shock with more than pre load adjustment, i read about Ohlins, the new Fox and Pro Action, i read the Pro Action History www.pro-action.com/history . The founder George Quaid work on motocross suspension since 1977, was a field technician for Works Performance and Ohlins wrote a monthly column on suspension for Motocross Action Magazine, worked as a mechanic for several top privateers, and worked as a factory mechanic on the World GP Motocross Tour in Europe.
I also read many people trying different shock and returning them for a refund because they don't meet their expectations.
I decided to give them a try, i also have a background in motocross ( in another life ) 😉 And experience with top of the line shocks on snowmobile. So i have a good idea what to expected in a good shock.
I send an E Mail to George at Pro Action, tell him my weight, passenger weight, and order the 13" shocks.
I receive the shock tuesday, installed them and go for a ride solo, on the worst road nearby,on a rough road with lots of bumps and dips...
The shocks was same as received.
I have the feeling the ride was too stiff to my liking . The bike was hopping.
i try backing the free bleed a few clicks ( it affect the compression dampening more than the rebound )
I turn around and ride the same road...it make a huge difference, the suspension was more supple , i can live with it the way it is and be totally satisfied for riding solo.Very much in control, very smooth, like riding on a cloud.
I'm sure with more riding miles in different situations and after little fine tuning they are going to be awesome shocks. ( they already are )They respond very well to small adjustment..i' m from Quebec ,Canada, They are in Pensylvania ,i know they do demo days, they put shocks on customer bikes and if you don't like them they put your shocks back...but i trusted them, i know if they are not right the first time they are going to make them to my liking...
Now i'm very happy, don't regret them, and i strongly recommend them.
Also i read that when you have good rear shocks you want to upgrade the front fork also.. My experience with this situation : with the Premium, the bike was really stiff, harsh , when i hit a large bump it resonates thru the handlebars, now, no more of this , i think it's like hitting with a hammer on an iron bar it vibrate thru the other end. I was doing research for the frond and i was planning to do something about it this winter, but for now i put this on hold, the rear is so smooth it does it's job and don't affect the front like before...
Now i enjoy riding this bike. Can't be more happy

Glad to hear you had a good experience with the pro-action shocks,i had been looking at them and wondering how well they work .
I thinks yours is the 3rd positive post i have read here in hdforums on the pro-action shocks when it came to customer srv'c & performance of the shocks themselves too.
Do you ever ride 2up because thats 90-95% of my riding & i'd like to know how the shocks do with more load riding 2up ,esp when it comes to keeping good control when hitting bumps while cornering.
The pro-action shocks look to be a good product esp with dampening adj along with spring reload adj too which most cheaper aftermarket shocks dont have.
Having the 2nd dampening adj seems to be key for dialing in good ride comfort while retaining good / safe handling all without a back breaking harsh ride.
What did they cost out the door, was it approx $800 US dollars?

I ride 90% solo ,i talk to George and he set them like his personal shock , me and my passenger weight 15 lbs more than George and his passenger
i don't have much preload, i can add much more if needed, the bike was already stored , our riding season is over here, you're right for the price
i was releived when they show up this week and be able to try them, now îll sleep well knowing they are superb, these guys know their stuff.

I have them and I am very happy so far. George and DJ (and a forum member her...) have been great getting them dialed in.
My Ms. Really likes them.
Problem I had is the teeth rattling front. Monotubes put in yesterday....
My riding season is coming to a close, but I hope to log another 800 miles or so before I put her up for Thanksgiving,
When I do that I'll post up my full ride report.
I am very satisfied with my ProAction.

The individual controls for rebound and compression are the ideal setup no doubt but the two settings are also somewhat related. If you want more compression you probable want more rebound so you are not pogo sticking around town. On a long travel suspension or on a track with specific conditions I can see it making a difference but not so much on the street. Being able to adjust the damping makes all the difference in the world because it controls how the preload on the spring is used. Their setup works very well.
I have them in mine. They are a huge improvement over stock and well worth the money. I would like more control over them but they are so far from stock and only 350 or so bucks.
