My neutral indicator light is not working on my 05 Road King Custom. Any of you guys ever run into the same thing? I can personally live without it but if someone knows where there might be a problem I would take the time to look.
Had a similar problem with my Glide last month- operation of the neutral light was intermittent. Turned out to be a loose connector on the neutral switch. Maybe the fix will be the same for your '05 as on my '07.
The switch in question is located on top of the transmission, just to the right of the starter if you're looking down from the driver's seat. It looks like an oil pressure sending unit, and it has two connectors on top of it. Pull off the connectors, clean the terminals, then put them back on & make sure they are snug. Problem with mine was one of these connectors was a little loose & was only making intermittent contact.
Other causes could be a burned out indicator lamp, broken wire, or the switch itself is defective.
I had the same thing as Lost described on my 07 as well.
I simply removed the two terminals, crimped them a bit with pliers, put some dielectric grease in the terminals, and no more issues after 3k miles.
Its a pretty easy check with a multimeter if you have one. The sensor simply closes a circuit when in neutral.
