I recently purchased an 07 RK standard. It comes with the windshield, however I found the windshield too high, with the top being right in my line of sight. I asked the dealer to swap out the windshield with a lower shield, but they said that I'm stuck with the stock windshield, however I could purchase a lower shield at about $300. I couldn't believe that. I would have thought they would have included the windshield height of my choice, not left me stuck with the stock. Is that the norm or am I being taken? They did offer to snip the windshield for an hours labor. Thanks.
you are 'stuck' with the stock windshield which comes with the RK. I don't know of any dealers who 'swap' them for another. Those are stock from the factory. I know HD has a LOW-PROFILE lexan shield for only $150 but don't know if that will fit on the standard RK Shield bracket.
This is the norm. You can't trade any stock parts off your bike. I was going to get the RK Standard but I really wanted wide white walls. They wouldn't change them. You have 2 options, and they are the 2 options the dealer told you. Buy a new one or cut.

You thought you could swap something??? LMFAO. This is Harley F. Davidson buddy, you take what you get and like it. Until you want to change it, then you'll learn what "HD" really stands for: "Hundred Dollars". That's what you'll spend every time you go to the parts counter just so you can get it the way it should have been in the first place.
Sorry, I had no idea what I was thinking. New to HD. Guess I was spoiled by good customer service and bending over backwards for the customer by other sellers. Didn't realize I'd be bending in the other direction for Harley!
You can change them if ya pay for them... I put the smaller tinted windshield on my '01 RK and went to a local motorcycle bone yard and picked up an OEM RK windshield assbly and mounted a Extra Tall on in this one...
Word to the wise... They're NOT AN EASY REPLACEMENT as the center support accross the middle of the windshield is put on with some KILLER 2-sided tape - Lotts of heat and time or you'll mess up that cross support...
On my Kids '05 RKS - Just replacend it with a Clearview - KILLER!!! Looks GREAT and blocks more wind...
Nope. That's why all the HD literature, especially catalogs, refer to your bike as a "blank canvas" that you must individualize, because after all, harley owners are all individuals who wear fingerless gloves and scowl a lot. Of course, you'll need to spend a couple grand more on their chrome parts to do it.
