How do air shocks work

After searching I found several companies that sell Air suspensions for Harleys.

http://www.legendsuspensions.com/pro...end-aero-a-flh Expensive, well designed but may provide the best ride, adjust-ability and handling of the air ride systems. Kevlar rubber airspring, adjustable deflective disc rebound, handlebar mounted switches that are integral to a replacement clutch lever clamp, Deutsch connections.

Hard to tell how all these will handle bumps and ruts and keep the tire on the road.
