ok, read up on the threads but hoping the generous folks here can still help me out. I have a 2011 Road King, want to lower an inch or so. Ordered LA Choppers kit. Have not installed and will see if it fits, but I see a lot of fitment issues on the forum and I am running aftermarket pipes.
Called Bitchin Baggers and like the idea, but why not just use street glide shocks if I am only lowering about an inch (or 3/4)? Would the 13" shocks with B.B. mods be better than the stock 12" shock?
What are a few other shocks I should look at in that price range...say under 300 bills?
I ride solo and weigh between 160 and 190 depending on how fat I am.
I would buying a set of take offs in that price range. People change there minds on shocks, especially the short version. IMHO, you can't buy a set of good shocks for $300 all in if you go new. But I bet you can find a set of lightly used for something close.
If you can increase your budget I would recommend a set that allows the springs to be adjusted AND the rebound. From what I have read, it's real important for those that are way under 200lbs, as you are.
I recommend Legend Revo's or Revo A's if you can. I have Legend suspension front and back and love it. There are many great brands and options, they really do make a significant improvement to your bikes ride, handling and comfort.
The bitchin baggers mod to 11.5" is about the same ride as a stock sg with 12" , but won't bottom out.
There is a set of premium 12" take offs in the classifieds , I went this route on my 15 ultra classic and glad i did they ride a lot better than the air shocks and I got 1" lower shock.
What would a guy look for in buying shocks used? Is ebay safe?
Make sure they posted good photos. Ask the seller how old the shocks are. I would not buy without documentation. eBay has a feedback rating system, make sure they have 100% good feedback.
If it was me, I would call some of the shock manufactures like Progressive, Legend, etc. Ask if they have any blems, returns or take offs. They may be cleaning up the 2015 books and make you a screaming deal. You have not if you ask not.
