After 6000 miles on an 06 Ultra, 2 different dealers are giving me some different info. Which is right, or the best way to go? Running stock except SE slip ons. 1st Dealer says I need a Stage 1 and a download. 2nd dealer says Stage 1 and a Race tuner. Dealer 1 is where bike was purchased and has done all the service. Why did they not feel that I needed this when the bike was purchased?
You don't need the race tuner. Stage 1 download is for the air cleaner AND mufflers. It will enrichen your air/fuel ratio.......keep your valves from toasting. Smart money! Race Tuner is a waste for this simple modification.......but if you added cams, it would be a different story.
...which is why I went w/the race tuner. Knowin' me, there'll be other mods in the future. Additionally, it allows ya to git 'er tuned to the perfect setup fer yer specific motor, vs. an "average" motor. They ARE more money, an' as others have pointed out, if ya ain't gonna do anything further to yer scoot, yer probably okay w/just the d/l.
I was told that if you use all HD stuff...SE slip ons,SE A/C. That the D/L is fine. But if you use aftermarket pipes or AC thatneed the sert in order to tune it properly. Plus what everyone else said
Why did they not feel that I needed this when the bike was purchased?
That would be my question to them also.
I guess technically, you only have 1/2 of a Stage 1 upgrade, so maybe they didn't think they needed it, but then why do they think you need it now?
The Stage 1 MAP for the 06 is crap though, so if the bike is performing well, and the plugs read good, then I would leave as is.
i have to agree with the consensus so far, my 06 has stage 1 a/c and slipons, last weeeknd when i got the "correct download" she woke up alot, she is running smoother and noticable cooler, Now i am planning a sert or pciii in the future but not untill i figure out which engine mods i want to do.
