Guys,
Wow, i am in over my head! I Just bought an '09 street glide and was talking to the service manager about putting on some V&H moster ovals. he said i might as well do the whole stage 1 and suggested that i upgrade to the race tuner for possible future mods. $1700.00.
I am lost. I have no idea if the "race tuner" for $500 is a good thing. Can some of you help me out by referring me to some good articles or threads to bring me up to speed? I know just enough to be dangerous, I am way below some of these threads that have been written. I undersatnd the pipes, air cleaner, have to change the air fuel mixture but that is about it!
Thanks!
I also like the V&H Monster Ovals. They were not out yet for the 09's 2 weeks ago. They were to be out soon. I went with the Rush slipons, high flow AC and stage 1 download. Runs great and sounds good. I will wait and see what type of tuners come out for the 09's before I give them another $1700. Stock did suck so I did the pipes, ac and stage 1 download for now.
The ECM stage I download should cost $150.00 plus labor. Between that and fact that your bike has the 02 sensors, it should run fine.... but it will still run a little (lean or rich, can't remember what factory default is). Since every bike behaves and reacts a little differently, you could still have a little popping, and it may run hot.
I went with a PCIII instead of a race tuner. in '05 there were not as many options for tuning EFI and most shops didn't have qualified race tuner tuners - the later may still be true. My dealer actually pushed the Power Commander III over the Race Tuner. Now it seems like there are a sh!tload of other options, I really can't comment on any of them.
I had a 95" kit (stage I, stock cams) installed, SE intake, SE Pro II slipons installed, with the ECM download and the bike ran great. I probably didn't need to do anything, but I did install the PCIII after the breakin period and have the bike dyno tuned. Canned maps may work for some folks, but they didn't for me.
The PCIII's and RT's, and all the other tuners out there are really if you are intending to continue the upgrade path, do cams, heads, etc. Personally, if the bike runs fine without spending the money, .... well, there you go. (assuming you are not planning on all the other stuff down the line)
Hello to all. My firstHarley is ordered to arrive in October. It is a SG and I asked the service manager how to cure the lean condition. He says use the SERT as there is no longer room for a power commander. Also the SERT has more capability. I wanted slipon mufflers and A/C. He recommends Rush slip ons which he say use a smaller diameter pipe on the left side to effect a sort of 2 into one system which he says helps the torque. He says the end result is about 75 HP and 80 something torque. Prices are about $350 for the Rush, $450 for the SERT and $450 for the dyno tune.
no longer room? I find that hard to believe. There wasn't a whole lot of room under the seat for the thing anyway, but what could they have done to make even less room?
