Needing to get off this factory seat. If you had to ride from NY to California in 4 days and you could get any seat you wanted what would it be? Taking all things into consideration like seat hight. Would you go with the mustang? Ultimate seat? Sundowner? Corbin? Zepplin? And why?
Comfort starts at the road! In the longer term I would replace the tyres with Avons, as they are more compliant and the first line of defence in absorbing road shocks. Most important however are new shocks, they will transform your ride. Nothing less than Ohlins. My Corbin is over a decade old and still doing fine, although I do like the latest ones we've seen above.

Mike has touched on the reason. Discomfort comes up from the road, repeatedly transmitting thumps and bumps up into the bike, from every little ripple, mark as well as potholes. Best not try guess how many the OP might hit on a 3k miles trip!
Good shocks will allow you to ride longer between stops, to be more relaxed when you get back on, and make an early start the following day, much fresher than before.
One of these days the MoCo and every Harley owner will recognise the need for decent shocks!

Could not agree more. The old saying " you don't know what you don't know " I recently installed quality suspension on my 14 Limited. Wish I had done day one. The bike is so much smoother. The change is amazing. IMHO, more important than the seat for comfort.
