I spoke with Howard again and he was in the process of purchasing a RK lock cylinder so he could work on the spacer concurrently. I disassembled the lock and the pin seemed simple to reproduce and Howard said he was going to be producing both items. I may forego making my pin work, and just wait for his solution. We'll see how impatient I get :-P
I did purchase a lock & cover to put into my own Road King nacelle that is together. A lot to do tomorrow and hope I can get to this project at the machine shop by Wednesday. This is a very easy fix. I spoke with tj316 early today as he had concerns about this thread & what he did at the shop for misalignment as he cares. He has a 2011 Road Glide which was drop-in except for changing the big head bolts on the risers for clearance on his 90# over-sized tubing (the size of water-pipe), cool looking Ape Hangers (does look good). Not sure what you're referencing. The lower triple on the Rushmore bikes hangs down almost 2 inches lower than the older triples. The lower triple on Howard's set places the bottom of the triple in a similar location to the older triples, not the newer ones.
The cow bell shapes and mounting locations are very different from each other. If you wanted to compare lengths you'd have to use the bearing as a reference, if you wanted to be accurate.
As for the grease fitting, it was never useful, maybe they finally realized the error of their ways Or they realized how much of a killing they'd make on "updated service schedules" for the bearings.
What I'm referencing is the notch in the cowbell is the location of the bottom of the new lower tree on the Rushmore bikes and the brake line connection on the bottom of the conversion tree looks to be at the same height or lower as that notch. The brake line is mounted to the back of the triple tree on the Rushmore bikes to make up for the increased spacing between the top and bottom trees. Seems clear to me, unless the cowbells are mounted higher giving this illusion.
With the original neck design and with Howard's lower tree you can fill the neck with grease, about 90 strokes and grease will flush thru the bearings.

There is no increase in the gap with Howards trees, the brake line mounts in the exact same place as it did. I know this because if it were lower I'd have to redo my lines. The rushmore stem is longer to accommodate the thicker lower tree on rushmore. Since that lower is thicker, HD was forced to relocate the lines. My lines sit exactly where they did before.

Ok gotcha, I thought you were saying the bottom of the triple was now closer to the fender than stock.
I am having the shim under the key switch being made, easy. Other than you Greg, all will come with Road Kings. The Road Glides do not need them due to the different key switch & spring. I needed a key for my used fork lock I got than tomorrow I will take it apart to make a new key bolt.
