Default Avon Cobra Pressures

Hello everyone,

Anyone running a 200/55-17 avon cobra and can share what pressures they run?

I'm running a 21/17 setup on my bike (2012 Street Glide)and trying to get the pressures right. My shop put 40 pounds in the back tire. It seems a little low to me as it feels a little soft in long sweepers. I did push it up to 45 pounds and it rode better but I'm trying to decide if the increased pressure will be a detriment to it.

What are you guys running?

Thanks

I had avons before but not that size. I called a Avon rep and he said to run higher pressure than others or the tire won't last. Look on the Avon website and pressures may be listed, if not just call them. I had no problems getting ahold of someone, the number was on the website.

I have 21" front and 16" rear. PSI is 40 front and 42 rear. They feel pretty good to me.

I talked to a rep one day after I had run these on both bikes. 2012 ultra classic 2 up but not loaded super heavy.......I run 42 in the front. 49 in rear with no problems what so every in 105 degree fla weather or 28 degree weather in New Hampshire . They stick in the rain very good. Tar snakes don't even bother these tires. Now the biggy...I was told to expect
7-8k and they would be gone by the Internet engineers and safety experts that run bike factory book specs This year alone 16k. Rear is just at its limit front still ok. Looks like they will end up pretty even. My 98 ultra stripped more like a street glide
39 psi front 46-47 rear and it's just solo fun running a little over the edge. Great turn in. Good in slop rain sleet. Lol. So lesson of the day No matter what all the internet engineers and lawyers tell u.....Skip the recommended PSI from the bike manufacture. They can't figure out how to stop wobble or bags from falling off!!! But to be honest they can't recommend anything but what they are told.......big safety factor figured in that they can't tell u about. Good tire by the way and I have nothing to do with them

I run 41/46 per Avon's recommended pressure for 2-up light. Avon recommended pressures are higher than what Dunlop/Harley recommends. I suspect a lot of the bad rap Avon gets on poor tread life is from people who miss this.

Probably true! I've been riding my Harleys on Avon tyres for over 40 years and much of my post count is from putting out the same message! When changing to any aftermarket brand tyres we should all check that brand's website or contact them, to confirm correct pressures.

Correct, I get about 8K out of stock Harley rear dunlops maintained by the HD and Dunlop guidelines 16 on the fronts. I was getting 8 and 16 on the Avon's following their guidelines. (Yes I am hard on tires and no I don't do burn outs)

Waiting for the dunflops on the new RG to wear out and then Avon's are going on it. Better grip, better road feel, better handling. My wife prefers them on her CVO Fat Bob as well.

I appreciate all the responses.

I did look at the website and didn't see a 200/55-17 listed under the cobra description. Interesting enough, I called the Avon Tech Line and the guy I spoke with "declined" to provide air pressure specs as he said " a 200/55-17 cobra isn't spec'd for a Harley touring bike due to the weight". I had the feeling it was a liability thing.

Anyway, thanks for the opinions. I think I'll try some of the pressure suggestons here and see how they feel. I ride pretty much solo 95% of the time.

That size of Cobra has a load rating of 78, which is a little lower than the stock tyre of 81. That's a difference of 82 pounds, in real money!
