When I keep the bike, 2005 Road King Classic in the garage, the cruise control usually works fine after I first bring it out.
After sitting in the parking lot all day, it turns on but I can't set it with the switch on the right side.
One thing to add is after an extended winter moist period, it won't set even after being in the garage.
Obviously it's a contact problem, but what I am looking for is an easy fix if there is one. Thought about contact cleaner but not sure if that will work.
Has anyone had this problem and if so what was your fix.
I would think using contact cleaner at the switch you think is the problem would be a good place to start. As long as the switch is not sealed up ?? Pretty easy to split the switch housing and see.
Try unplugging the wires from the throttle return cable on the frame neck. Two terminals in that cable that cancel the cruise when you roll off the throttle. It won't activate cruise if there's continuity at that connection.
