Default Saddle Bag Rubbing

Have an 07 Ultra, tok the morning to give it a good cleaning. When I took the right saddle bag off I noticed it is rubbing against the right side cover. It is pretty badly marked up (as is the side cover). I check all the fasteners and the side cover and everything is tight a looks to be in the correct place. Has anyone else had this issue and maybe know a solution?

I have the same problem on my '07 Road King. The right saddlebag has almost rubbed through the paint on the right cover. I've tried to move the saddlebags forward and back, but the problem still exists. The cause for mine is probably the PCIII under the cover. Good luck finding a solution.

The brackets provide a fair amount of fore and aft adjustment. Remove the right bag, use a 7/16" wrench toloosen the bolts that attach the mounting bracket to the bike, then reinstall the problem bag on the bike with sufficient clearance from the side cover, then resposition the front or rear bracket (it will move if it has been loosened), insert a lock pin, then do the other bracket/pin. The brackets are the same for all touring bikes, but the mounting positions for the hard and leather bags are different. Had to adjust my brackets this way when I put RK Custom leather bags on my EG.

If you are concerned about the paint, take the bike to the dealer and raise hell about pre-delivery set-up.

This will cure the problem - if the bike is new - you might be able to get the Dealer to repair the damage since this is the way it came from the factory??

put spacers under the bag bracket to bring it out away from the bike.

Thanks a bunch, I will certainly take it to them, I appreciate the reply.

Same thing cause by the side cover not pushed in all the way. It rubbed on the heat shield. You can get some of the 3M clear film (I think $20 on Ebay) and put it in critical areas like side covers, rear fender under seat or where ever there is the potential to rub.

I had mine do this one time. Someone backing out of a parking slot next to me hit the bag guard and twicked it enough to start it rubbing against the bag. just looking at it, it looked ok; but a week or two later I notice the wear. It's tricky trying to straighten those things out (the bag guards)!!

I've had the same thing happen on my FLHX. I took it to the dealer to see what they could(would) do, since its under warranty. They adjusted it for me, and will be repainting the area on the bag and side plate later. They said that the MoCo would NOT make good on this, as it is a dealer prep issue.
