There was an old saying in the 70's.."eventually everyone winds up on an Electra-Glide"..I laughed when I first heard it...no way I'll wind up on a Lazy-Boy Glide....ya right..look at me now...get the Ultra...Street-Glide is a "flavor-of the month" bike...like the Fat-boy 10 years ago...

If you're on the fence than it's a decision by She Who Must Be Obeyed
Now thats freaking hillarious!

Same dilema. Took a 07 SG on test drive and was impressed. Startedto do the math (read $$$) for when the Mrs and I are out riding and she wants to leave her Street Bob at home. Even with EBay prices, it was going to run close to $1500 for the Tour Pak.

After literlaly looking on the interent for months and yet it was Mrs Shasta poked me to go Electra and get it all at once.Should be here this week.

BTW -the wife said I owe her oral sex for a month straight for her $$$$ support. Gotta love that Gal!

The guy I bought myUltra from had it set up the way a SG is. The side bags took care of his needs. He bought a 2007 SG and loves it, I got his bike and keep thinking about taking the tour pack off (it's detachable) but never do. I didn't think I would love a full dresser andup to about 2 years ago would have said there's no way. Man times change. Have you taken the SG for a decent ride w/wife?How about the Ultra? Good luck.

Well, guess I gotta speak up for the Street Glides For me, I love the Ultras and Classics, IF that is the look you're going for. You can strip them down, but some of the more detailed stripping would be;

-removing those bumpers and reflectors from the front fender
-removing and replacing the turn signal bar for the far better looking SG signals.
-No lower bumper integrated light.
-Taking off bag guards if you want the clean look.
-ughh...can I have my Ultra with NO pin striping please??? Oh...really...that sucks
-bezeled guages added to the instrument panel
-adding fairing mounted mirrors

I don't want a CB or intercom, but I did add lower fairings, (the only thing from an Ultra.) Sometimes I would like a detachable beer box, but not enough to get one. For practical touring, a good T-Bag along with the hard bags works great.

It's not what I was going for, but I rarely fail to get some compliment or comment from someone every time I'm out on the SG. They are striking bikes. I'll admit to enjoying hearing people praise the look of my bike.

There is probably more, and as I said, I do love Ultras...a lot, but for that clean custom, yet EGlilde look, I think the StreetGlide is far from "flavor of the month." By the way, if the Fatboy is yesterdays trend, and I was in charge of MOCO, I'd be looking for more "trends" every year!

Saying Street-Glide is a "flavor-of the Month" bike isn't putting the bike down...SGlides are nice bikes, but the E-Glides are constants...they are for serious tourers who don't want compromise...Street Glides to me are too much compromise for the money they cost, i.e. less cargo space, inferior shocks, less lighting, less protection...ya, they look cooler out of the box, but cool don't count for much when you hit rain with 1000 miles to go...JMHO..

Amen! Long rides out of Anchorage require you to go through the mountains no matter which higway you take and I'm not a weather guesser. Having an ultra has kept me from turning around more than once.

It's funny how much your taste changes in time...I have added most of the compfy things thatgives your journey a little more wind and rain resistance. Plus its good to have a radio for company when you ride alone, or even in a group.
Honestly speaking for myself, most of our trips are fairly short because of work or weather. So most of the time you don't really needall of the extras, but it is good to have them if you need them. I ride solo most of the time, so I don't need theextra space to carrymore baggage unless I plan a trip. But for the most part I have turned my bike into a Classic minus the tour pack...maybe that will be later on down the road if I feel like I need one. So like the other guys are saying it's better to have it and not need it. You can take it off for the more sport look.

I had the same question a while back... then I decided to get a Road Glide!

More bike for less money than either, especially the UC. Looks so cool too. Just buy a tour pak and your good to go!

I originally wanted a street glide but determined I didnt want the lowered rear, I did want passenger footboards not pegs, I did want passing lamps, I did want the more comfortable seat. I ended up just buying an 06 EGC not the ultra. I figured the better half doesnt want to listen to Metallica anyway as were going down the road and at this point I dot care about a CB or lowers. That said if I were single I would not have cared about the lowered rear or passenger footpegs because I think the SG is a great looking ride. The fact the SG costs as much as an EGC made the choice easier also. Either way you cant go wrong!!!!!!!!!!!!!
