Which Touring model?
Even though I've got a Limited, I love Road Kings. Most versatile Touring bike Harley makes!
Pros
Same Ground Clearance as an Ultra.
Can add aftermarket Fairing if needed.
Can add Tour Pak if needed.
Can add radio and aftermarket CB if needed.
Lighter weight
Still using Cable Clutch instead of hydraulic.
Great looking bike!
Can get with Security and ABS
Cons
Can't think of any...

As for cons on the rk, these are on the Ultra already
The ultra has the same ground clearance as an ultra.
Has the fairing when needed
Has the tour pack when needed
Has the radio and CB when needed
Has the hydraulic clutch on the ultra
Great looking bike
Comes with abs and security.
A detach kit loses the tour pack when wanted
I was thinking the same thing! You got to go to Demo days! JR
I love the look of a King, but for the long haul, you can't beat an Ultra or Limited. Between a Road, Street, or Electra Glide, all you are going to get is personal opinions. They sell lots of all three for good reason: everybody has their own taste. I had a King and two days on a demo Limited had me sold, but that's just me. I know a few guys with Roadglides who wouldn't trade them for the world... Good luck with your new ride!
I came off an '05 FXST and went to a '12 FLHX. Had wanted one for years and decided it was time. Put 10k miles on it in 9 months and really liked it. Totaled it may of last year and was looking for another bike. I had some issues initially with the fairing being so close, so I sat on a RG. Loved the way the fairing sat out and away from me and it felt much roomier. Ended up buying a '15 and really like everything about it. It much smoother and handles high winds and speeds better than a batwing IMO. I really like the extra lighting as well. My only minor complaint is the slight loss of wet weather protection. I personally prefer riding with lowers so I added them to both the FLHX and the new RG. They are easily the single biggest wind management improvement on the RG other than a windshield of the correct height.

I got a barely used 2015 Road Glide Special with 3k miles for $20,136 OTD vs the new 2016 that would of cost me $26,300 OTD. I saved basically $6,000 and some change buying used. If money is no option then you can buy anything you want. I love the Road King and its diversity but its cheaper to buy a bike with all the goodies than it is to add them later. If you think you will need a tour pack then buy a bike that comes with it. I've ridden the RK, SG and now the bike i own 2015 Road Glide Special and since i ride solo 99 percent of the time i don't need a Tour pack. If you desire the best wind protection there is nothing better than the new Shark front end on the Road Glide. I ran by bunches of 18 wheelers in high cross winds today and i didn't feel any wind disturbance from those trucks that used to shake me senseless on other bikes. If you need Navigation the 6.5 Boom box screen might be on your must have list. Do you plan to drive alot at night? Those dual Daymakers on the RG really light it up. So many options, so many questions you need to ask yourself. Good Luck
I had a 04 Road Glide w/tourpak. I like the look of the fairing (not the new ones so much). At the time I had two bikes and wanted to sell one and the RG was getting more bites. Once I sold it I missed the conveniences and comfort of the touring model and traded my wide glide in on a 08 Ultra.
The Road Glide feels lighter at lower speeds because the fairing is attached to the frame. I also remember I was always trying to modify or add something because of the buffeting that comes with the RG
Once the Ultra is moving the fact that the fairing is attached to the handle bars becomes a non issue. It has its own buffeting issues at highway speeds but not like the RG.
Once I had a tourpak I didn't want to be without one, so the streetglide and RK were out for me. I would have bought another Road Glide if I could have found one at the right price at the time, but not a bike without a tourpak. I bought the Ultra and then installed the detach kit.
I'm 5'9" with a 30" inseam and the Ultra was tough wheeling around in the driveway. I tried a pair of the lowered shocks and didn't like the ride at all. Right now I have a pre-2011 street glide seat on it and a lowering kit and it feels just right. On a long trip I can put the Ultra seat back on and still be fine.
That being said I probably would like the ride of the street glide, rg custom, or ultra low. But who knows until they try.
If you think you might want a tourpak, pick one that has it. It seems a lot more pricey to add one later. Other than that I think its just a question of whether you like the look of the Road Glide or not and what kind of deal you can get
One more thing. I wouldn't buy another bike without ABS.
