They get hot if you are stopped, for a long light for example. But soon as you begin moving there is a breeze over the top of you head and down across your face. At least that's how mine, FF with vents, feel.
That's my experience as well. As long as you're moving, even a little bit, it's fine. At stop lights, I flip up the shield so my breath isn't heating it up.
I got a few on-line helmets here, sitting on a bench, went to HD dealer, tried them all on, found one that's perfect, but two of the same helmet's fit differently, best to try before you buy imo

Yup. Agreed. That's why I got them from Revzilla. 30 day return. I can't ride with them but I can take my time.

I have several helmets sitting on a shelf also. It sucks having a odd ball head. I've also compressed the foam a little in helmets to make them fit better. I know it takes away from the safety of the helmet but when you can't find anything that fits what choice do you have?
Try squeezing it between a couple heavy objects or a large vise and let it sit for a couple days(maybe slowly heat it up with a heat gun to help it along), like shaping a ball cap...
This might be the best place to post this but I'll ask anyway.
I typically wear half helmets. For a long time I just wore a peanut shell then switched to a dot half that fits great.
I need a 3/4 though to protect from the sun and elements a bit more. I cannot find anything to fit my coconut. Last spring I purchased the HD 3/4 (forget the model) and had to shave a good bit of foam out of it. I still have an excruciating hotspot on my forehead.
This week I ordered a Shoei j-cruise and a Bell Bullit from Revzilla to try out. The bell is no good immediately. It was off within 10 minutes. The Shoei wasn't bad. It was fairly comfortable. After 45 minutes wearing it while I work (that's a sight to see) I had a red forehead with indented lines from the liner that stuck around for about an hour. Getting a size up would make it too loose so that's not a viable option. I know it will break in 5-10% but don't trust that will be enough. This is an expensive helmet so sanding foam is not something I really want to do or should have to do.
Anyone been in this situation with a helmet and did the 10% break-in fix it? I'm being told by Revzilla the only real option is a full face. Does anyone know of any 3/4 for a long oval coconut? How many people actually shave the foam in their helmets?
I have used the J-Cruise for a couple of years. I had to shave one of the cheek pads as it was digging into me on long trips. You can check Revzilla and they have different size cheek pads that may give you a better fit. It does give me an itch on my forehead from time to time. I periodically take all the pads out and put them in the washing machine. Seems to help. I just ordered a Bell Mag 9 from Revzilla to have a spare helmet. I really like the set up as it is built for my SENA headset. Wore it to work for the first time today and felt fine.

UPDATE: The Shoei helmet is a XL. I ordered a XXL inner liner which is 5mm thinner and gave the helmet another try. I only had a minor hot spot on the top of my forehead about the size of a quarter. No headaches. It's very close to a fit. Closer than anything I've tried. I'm going to give it a little time for breaking in and if the hot spot isn't gone I'll just press the foam in that one spot.
