One little additional tid bit about passing while on a motorcycle. If you are in a group of motorcycles, pass the vehicle and make sure that you allow plenty of room for other motorcycles to clear the passed vehicle also. Don't leave your riding companions hanging out in the same lane as oncoming traffic.

True but never follow a crowd blindly. Riders come in different skill levels and attitudes. Always be responsible for your own safety.
If you are going to pass another vehicle should we downshift and gun it? Why? Can you just stay in gear? I want to understand how the gearing effects you.
This is a joke, right? Maybe a newbe trying to play with the regulars?
If this isn't a joke, I strongly recommend you stick to 4 wheels.
Poster may not be joking if he/she is really young. Being in my 60's I grew up on manual tranny's. My first 3 or 4 trucks were all manual.
I am sure you can find many 30 year old folks that have never driven a manual transmission nor would they understand anything about what either type of transmission does anyway.

I understand not understanding the nuances of shifting. But the fact that an engine running at higher RPMs produces more horsepower and torque should be obvious to anybody old enough to get a license.
