Tomorrow we will replace the bearings.

The fender lifters were finished today. I have to decide if I will paint or chroming it.
Let us know the results of the bearing swap. I plan to do mine next week.

Thunder Max makes a module called the Trac Max which calibrates so the linked brakes/abs will work correctly. Now MC Baggers has a bearing that does the same thing but much less expensive. They make a bearing for the 21", 23", 26" and 30".

The fender rub sucks! Someone gave good info as drilling out the rear two mounting holes with a 3/8" drill bit. We do this on every install we do (2013-older) and I send an instruction sheet with every wheel is send out (2013-older).
This makes sense to me, reflex linked or not an ABS system monitors wheel speed right? It needs to compare that wheel speed to something else, on a car I believe it compares the wheel speed to the other wheels on the car to determine if there is a lockup/sliding condition.

That being said I would assume the ABS system on the bikes compares the front wheel speed to the rear? Going to a 21" wheel will reduce the number of rotations of that wheel when compared to the rear.

I'm guessing the system is picking up on that and making the decision that the front wheel is locking up.

So how have so many installed 21" wheels with abs on the 2013-older models without issues? I believe you guys are referring to the 2014 and newer right?

This has only been an issue with the 2014-newer WITH reflex-linked brakes. However that has been taken care of without the use of a trac max.

I have no idea what the issue is with the DNA wheel. If everything is mounted correctly (no extra shimming or spacing) it is probably a bearing issue. I have been selling wheels for a lot of years and have not had one issue with the 13-newer ABS equipped models.

Haha!

Well I do know the 2014-16 models have the "Reflex Linked Brakes" but in saying that I would assume any ABS system has to compare wheel speeds.

The linked brakes is a system that actually helps the rider by applying the brakes evenly to both the front and rear wheels regardless of which brake lever you are applying and regardless of which one you are applying more pressure to when you are in a panic stop situation.

The older models with ABS do not have the linked system to my knowledge but the ABS system still needs to work like any other I would think. It needs to compare wheel speed, by increasing the front wheel size you have decreased to rotational speed when compared to the rear wheel.

Someone mentioned a "black box" earlier in the thread, I'm guessing that's what you'll need. System will have to be tricked into thinking the wheel speeds are the same I'd say.

Going to a 21" or even up to a 30" does not effect the ABS on the models without the linked brakes. We have been doing them since 2008.

I would think the "wheel size ratio" is of importance because of both brakes being applied at the same time, as you noted. Since the older model brakes are independent this does not become an issue.

I know Harley is trying to increase safety but they also try to throw curve ***** to the aftermarket world as well. LOL

I just came back from the highway test and definitely the problem was the ABS bearing!

We put the original bearing and the brake worked like new. Were also not found DTC codes.
