I have the JRI 13B designed by motorcycle metal in co-operation with JRI. fantastic shock. I will not recommend the current JRI as they have gone on th success of the original but have off sourced to china with reduced construction.

Get Ohlins from Howard or go second best.

Great advice!

Lunchbox, over the years that I've been following shocks threads on HDF I have come to recognise that solo riders can be happy with most of the aftermarket shocks we can buy. The rules change when carrying our favourite passenger! If Mrs L is going to be riding with you, then follow Canuck's advice. If you would like Mrs L to ride along then do just that!

Why? Partly because the added weight (even if Mrs L is a lightweight) seems to defeat most brands of shocks, but also because her riding experience back there is different to the rider's up front. She will be eternally grateful for Ohlins (Mrs B is for ours!).

Yeah, but there's a right answer for the gas cap. Used to set it on top of the pump. After riding off and leaving it once I realized the right answer to the gas cap placement is - in the seat. :-)

Could've just had a service guy or manager do it but that's the kind of guy he is and that's the kind of customer service they provide. Top Notch all the way around in my opinion.
That was my impression from dealing with Pro Action. They have been in the business for decades and they are very customer driven. Their shocks also have damping adjustments.

Ohlins is Ohlins. They have always been a top rated product.

Howard at Motorcycle Metal and George at Pro Action are the two I'd talk to. The first time I filled out a contact form for either of them with a couple of questions, I got a phone call instead of an email because they wanted to go over my needs personally. That is the opposite of almost any other company out there.

There are lots of good choices out there, but standout service is harder to come by. Good luck with your search and let us know what you decide on and how you end up liking them.

===============================

Well rear shocks has be either in the top 2 if not top thing posted about here in hdforums with tons of reading avail on rear shocks for HD's.

So get a cup of coffee ,do a simple search like for ex " Rear shocks " in touring section and then you will find many hrs of reading info on rear shocks for touring hd's.

With that said do yourself a favor and dont do what many people do trying cheaper to middle of the road priced/lvl shocks with the majority never being totally satisfied with them wasting a lot of money and some tima long the way itll they end up with a high quality rear shock like many end up going with /Ohlins that have preload (spring) adj along with a rebound adj and some with a 3rd adj which is compression. (Hope i didn't confuse wich adj came 1st on the Ohlins rebound & compression or other way around) .

I am one of the guys that learned the hard way trying progressive 944's which arent a cheap low line shock ($599ish list price) which after many test rides and tweaking preload adj all over the place wasnt much better then stock loosing hundreds of dollars later on selling them in like new cond with not many miles on them.

I recently changed the oil in the stock airshocks to 10w oil specifically formulated for motorcycle shocks which smoothed out dampneing a bit which also allowed me to reduce air pressure 20+ psi/50% (from 40 to 20 riding solo) and not bottom out anymore when hitting a moderate to lrg bump riding solo like bike used to do with 40psi in rear shocks.

So the new shock oil and now running 50% less air pressure eliminated the harsh back breaking shock i used to get if i hit a lrg bump/hole/swell in the road ,i am not saying you dont feel those lrg type bumps or irregularities in the road anymore because i do.

But changing the rear shock oil making better dampening and allowing me to run 50% less air pressure smoothed out rear shock operation enough to make a very noticeable positive improvement in ride comfort in the road cond i ride in enough so that i may not not need to go for the Ohlins.

But i need some more time & miles under my belt with new oil & lower air pressure in the rear shocks before making that decision esp when it comes to riding with bike loaded with the wife on the back before i make the final decision to go with Ohlins from Howard or not.

Like already stated Pro-Action looks to mfg a good shock with good cust srvc too.

Good Luck.

Scott

There's Ohlins, and then there's a lot of companies fighting over who's second-best.

Where do you put the gas cap when filling up?
