I love Ohlins threads. The level of obsession, compulsion, fanaticism, hero worship and general undying love for a set of rear shocks is so over the top that it creates some very entertaining threads. I can envision the members who possess these obvious instruments of mechanical art using specialized precision measuring instruments to precisely, to the thousands of an inch, set up squareness, sag, rebound, compression, droop, whoop de do, or whatever else must be perfectly measured so the ride is as precise and perfect as a NASA moon rocket launch.
Unfortunately, I am numbered among the unwashed masses using stock shocks (modified to boot!) to imperfectly ride my Harley down the highways and byways of this still great nation.
Honestly I'm just jealous of all the extra cash these guys have to throw towards parts. I guess if I quit buying bikes....

Agreed, the ohlins threads can be a bit over the top. Never knew shocks could be so complicated and every mm of adjustment is life or death. Even though I fell on the band wagon and just recently installed ohlins on my sgs. Leveled the shocks while installing and didn't adjust a thing directly from ohlins and they ride fantastic, couldn't be happier with them!
I think what amazes me is people that get a product and come on here for advice without contacting the vendor first. I think the go to move is to contact who did the work and then if your not satisfied get on a forum and ask. I don't care if its shocks, exhaust or whatever.

This, especially with a guy like Howard who makes it crystal clear that he's available for any questions.

You make a very good point! Most people complain about vendor support and here we have a vendor that goes out of his way to be accessible and asks for clients to call him when there is an issue.
What amazes me is that more don't talk about the great alternatives that are easy to install ( Spherical bearings top and bottom ), don't charge for rebuilding or replacement if needed with a lifetime warranty. Backed with great customer service. On top of all that, American made. Some may say they are willing to go through the extra hurtles because Ohlin's are the best, maybe they are, I don't know and will not ever know because I'm so happy with my "other" brand. Wish a independent company would install suspension from the top 6 suspension companies on identical bikes, have a dozen riders ride the bikes over a long course without knowing who's socks were installed and judge each of them. Bet the results would surprise many on this forum.
Not knocking Ohlin's or any other shock, just think it's important for readers to know there are great products available without high levels of complexity. For goodness sake, we are not installing suspension on a high tech racing bike, most of us don't drag our floorboards through the corners anymore. We just want a smoother ride that handles better than stock.
What amazes me Scott is the more you post your bs that more people don't challenge your total lack of suspension knowledge because your post show just that . If a frame is out of alignment spherical bearings will not correct it , they will allow you to install the shock easier but the shock will still not be aligned and you could damage it . Penske and Ohlins both used them in the past but went away from them . I too would love to do comparisons so you would stop spewing your lies , lifetime warranty when your brands warranty states limited lifetime but they told you different on the phone and won't put it in writing but you believe it , why ? Because you bought them, again I'm glad you like what you bought , my Progressive 940's and JRi both were much better than stock and a nice improvement that would satisfy many riders but they or your brand are not on par with Ohlins.
