I would be money there are quite a few of us out there that would really like to see a side by side comparison between J&M, Hog Tunes, and JBL.
I myself love music and would like the best bang for the $, who wouldn't!
I have had J&M on an 03 and they were great. I currently have Hog Tunes with amp on an 07 (which all together is a different setup with radio's)
Either way theyare both good speakers!! Both gave GREAT customer service! I would have no problems dealing with either one again.
KEEP US POSTED PAPPY!!!!!
WHY, if the J&M speaker upgrades for the Harley give you more than enough volume and clarity at 75+ mph, with the stock radio ,,, WHY add an amp which will only add additional weight in the fairing, draw more power from the charging system, generate more heat in the fairing and may squawk or squeal when the CB radio is keyed up ((if you have a CB )) ,,,,,,
that is my question ,,,,,, JMJOHN ,,,, john@jmcorp.com ,,,,,,
Build an amp, supply the people, and stop defending your speakers as being the stock bikes answer. More juice is a very much wanted item for many. Perhaps you could leave the models you have for the ones that want stock power, and build or brand an amp with some better speakers for those who want more. I will bet a5 stardinner at an upcoming rally that the bulk of your buyers would ask for the upgraded speakers with an amp provided you give them a viable option and suited product. Get on it man!
As for the speaker weight, c'mon it's not a balance issue, nor does adding 12oz of ferrite throw a fairing out to lunch. I've seen tons of baggers, and never, let me repeat that NEVER have I ever seen a speaker tear loose for the molded plastic supports or anchor points. Let's stop defending the why build them, and answer up to what people are seriously asking for. I could always fly to Korea or Taiwan for you (at your expense of course) to find you a suitable manufacture that will private label a productfor you John. That and i'm sure that 50 would trip over me to get that business! So what are you waiting for John?Seriously?
here is my answer to your question copied from the other speaker thread ,,,,,,
",,, most everyone knows that a good percentage of 1998-2005 Harley audio systems will not tolerate speaker impedances much below 7 ohms, without getting hot and cutting in and out while you ride (this caution if my memory serves me right was even printed in one of the Harley service bulletins of the day)),,,,, and the lower the speaker impedance is, the higher percentage of those systems will havethis problem,,,,,
J&Min past years offeredspeakers for those bikes rated at 6-ohms and we had our share of complaints about this issue, so I have some history on this ,,,, speakers would be returned with nothing at all wrong with them, yet they would cut in and out when installed on the bike ,,,,
and not only are the Hog Tunes speakers labeled at thelowimpedance of 5.75 ohms ,,,, I found from my measurements that they actually measured quite a bit lower than that, which really surprised me ,,,,,
all you have to do is ask the people on this forum how many of them had this exact problem on their 1998-2005 bikes ,,,,, at least the ones who care to jump into this thread with the rest of us fools ,,,,, "
The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
Cause we (the people) who are in our mid 30's to out late 60's love our rock music, our blues, our jazz, our classical, and at times, many of usWANT it loud. We want more bass response, we want more volume, and we absolutely love hearing our favorite song CRANKED up as loud as it can go provided it's clear.
You ever see that commercial (or printed ad) where the guy is
sitting in a recliner and he is listening to music and he is being
blown back by the sound ? That's how I like it !
My 1st dresser was a 1998 FLTHCI and I added the HD rear
Ultra speakers and HD amp. As soon as I found out about
Hogtunes I bought them and replaced all 4 stock ones.
I was using a MP3 player and back feeding it into the stock radio.
It seamed to me that the music was way louder then listening to
the plain FM radio stations. My best comment (or complaint) was
from a fellow co-worker that was walking to work one day in the
city here (Cambridge,MA). He came in yelling at me cus he could
hear me TWO BLOCKS before he could see me and two blocks
after I passed him. I said " Hey my pipes ain't THAT loud ! "
He said it WASN'T the pipes he heard ! It was my dam radio !
LMAO .......
So I asked him how he liked Aerosmith
at 7am !Needless to say my 07 Ultra & the Wife's 07 SG have Hogtune
speakers and I am still waiting for Pez's speakers & Amp for my
Lowers.
Ohhhh ...... PEZ ! ! ! YOU LISTENING ? ? ? ? ?
Rob .....
I am looking for a set of jbl gto527's. I called a car audio shop yesterday who said they had them. However he said that they were 4 ohm not 2 ohm. I asked if it was the same model # and he said yes but that JBL had changed them to4 ohm. The shop was a little ride so I decided not to go check them out
