Just for what it's worth I installed Swiss Audio (SAX-522) in the front using the factory grill and DB Drive (DB525.2) In the back. The DB Drives had to have a slight alteration to fit in the rear box but they blow away the MADE IN CHINA factory speakers. Both sets run under a $100 plus shipping.

I had J&M's on my 00 FLHTCI and loved them so I have bought another set for my 01FLTRSEI2, since I have finally blown the stock speakers.should be here tuesday...

There seem to be many 5 1/4" speakers on the market these days that are marine rated from some reputable manufacturers. Just ordered the Hawg Wired system yesterday to be delivered to the stealer for installation this week on my new 08 SG. Yes it is pricey but you have to pay to play. If you want quality this system rocks. The company is family owned and the components are built on site. They are very helpful and willing to answer all questions I went with the 4 channel amp and component speakers. The amp has a 5th channel output for the upcoming SUBWOFFER. Talk about a real thumpin!!!

With 4 ohm speakers connected to your 2001 Harley audio system, the sound and volume will be significantly louder thanwith the 8 ohm speakers that you should be using ,,,,,,,
However ,,,, you run the risk with those 4 ohm speakers of damaging your radio ,,,,, and in time you will probably experience the speakers cutting in and out as you ride ,,,,,
That is my point in asking you these questions ,,,,,

can you give us an idea of the speaker volume control settings you used with the stock Harley speakers, while riding at highway speeds, and the volume control settings you use now on the highway with the new speakers ?
are you using a CD or something into the aux input ?
I think that this may be good baseline comparision information for many riders to use ,,,,,
