I have been having problems with my starter for a while now. Last week while on vacation, the starter clutch failed completely. Luckily it happened on the last day at a dealership. They had no starter parts as Harley moco is back ordered on those parts. We push started the bike and I rode home without stopping the engine.
I called the local dealer who by chance has the parts for the starter, and decided to try and find a new starter online. I found a great deal on starters at www.harleystarters.com . They are a division of I-5 Components who are a powerseller on E-bay with a 100% approval rating. They sell carburators on their E-bay store and showed 824 customer replies with not even one negative reply. I ordered a 1.4kw starter (new, not rebuilt) for $220 and $17.50 shipping (anywhere in the US).
I wanted to pass this info on in case others might be needing or looking for a great deal on a starter.
By the way, it's a real pain to push start a high compression engine![:@] I found that out the hard way.
I'm sure those are fine, but I have a Terry's Components Starter, and it's been rock solid. http://www.terrycomp.com/index.html
They have a very good reputation.
My starter clutch went out last summer. $55.00 for the parts. I had it swapped out in alittle less the 2 hours. High compression builds will eat up starters, even the High dollar ones.
