Default Barnett Clutch Darg issues

Yesterday I installed a Barnett Extra plate kit (307-30-10013), after I buttoned her up and following their directions for setting and adjusting the clutch drag was such a bear. After five or six failed attempts to adjust it I called Barnett and the technician I spoke to said to remove the Damper Spring and the damper dished spring even though their kit called for it to be reused.

If I go in and remove the damper spring and the dished spring, will running that smaller diameter plate with out the two internal springs cause any problems.

Has this solved the same problem for other members?

Thanks in advance!!

Running that smaller friction can be done, however I recently did the opposite of you. I've run the Energy One extra plate without the judder (dished) spring and seat for the last 2 years but didn't like the lack of friction zone so I installed the larger id friction and the spring and seat and like how that works. The gentleman at E1 recommended backing off the adjuster screw only a 1/4 turn from lightly seated which gave me the clutch feel I wanted.
By any chance did you have the spring in backwards? So easily done.

I'm sure it's installed correctly, but I'll know for sure when I pop her back open tonight. Going to remove those springs and reinstall the clutch.

Thanks for the input.

After talking to Barnett, i went in and removed the damper and dish spring and what do you know the clutch works fine now. the tech I spoke to said a lot of people have the same issue, I told them it would be nice if they updated their instructions so one did not have to do it twice.

Well after a little break-in and 1 or 2 more adjustments I believed I'll be dialed in.

Thanks to all who helped!!

Hey well good luck. A bunch of extra work though, eh. Curious, do you have a hydraulic clutch or cable?

Correct me if I'm wrong,, If you replace the stock OEM clutch pack with any aftermarket clutch pack, that does not have the narrow fiction plate included, you discard the seat damper spring and damper spring ... (ie, the frictions are all the same size),, you start with a friction, and end with a friction, (of course you have steels in between)...

The newer clutch kit from Barnett (Harley Davidson Extra Plate Clutch Kit- Kevlar Part# 307-30-1001) has a smaller diameter friction disk like the stock clutch. The directions say to reuse the seat damper and the curved damper spring. After my initial install the clutch would not release. Barnett said many people have the same issue and to discard the springs, it worked but it would be nice if they updated their instructions.

No doubt, if you replaced the stock clutch with a direct aftermarket replacement clutch pack, (ie, pack includes 1x narrow friction), but discard the seat damper spring and damper spring, the clutch will operate, (as in your situation).. Seems to me, that it is defeating the purpose of having 1x narrow friction plate installed without the damper seat and spring installed, (which are there to go around the narrow friction plate) !!!!!
