Default Oil pressure bouncing around?

My oil pressure is bouncing around. Used to be normal 32ish until hot. now it idles around 20-25 but will jump up to around 40-45 then drop back down with no load, it is not dropping to 0 and no lights are coming on. Just started lastweek. It's going in for cams and hydraulic cam plate and oil pump next week, but would like to ride this weekend. Any ideas?
Thanks

Filter bypass maybe. Whens the last change.

Just changed it today, but didn't fix it. Same fluctuation.

I would be leaning toward a faulty gauge or sending unit. The only way to know is to hook up a manual gauge to test the oil pressure.

My guess if either a faulty guage sending unit or a sticky bypass valve in the pump. I don't think the extra pressure will hurt anything but you could call your mechanic for advice.

Why the need for such high oil pressure on these motors? They use roller bearings and not your typical main or rod bearings so high oil pressure isn't needed to fill bearing clearances and with too high of oil pressure, you'll fill the top of the motor too quickly. Just curious.

Rods on piston side, lifters, rocker arms, cam to cam plate, crank on cam plate, etc are not roller bearings.
You also want good pressure for the jets to spray oil on the bottom of the pistons for cooling.

I imagine it would take 900 pounds (made up) of pressure to fill the top of the motor considering only ounces only make it up there under normal operation. Literally dripping out.

I was referring only to the lower end using roller bearings. There and cam bearings is where higher oil pressure is mostly needed in non roller motors. I was just curious because I was always an oil pressure guy while playing with V8's back in the day. I heard these motors don't need much pressure at all.
