I just used some windex and a bottle brush to clean the interior of the headlight when I had my bulb out. Just make sure you give it ample opportunity to dry out before you put the bulb back in.
I did order the DK Custom H4 replacement as a result of this thread, so thanks for the gouge!
That will kill illumination on the road. Just as the foggy plastic headlights on many cars kills their illumination.
Be aware that mhjany H4 bulbs do not like to be touched with oily human fingers. Keep it clean, and wipe it with alcohol if you do finger the bulb. The oils can leave brownish burn marks on the bulb, and can cause the bulb to shatter when hot. Never seen the latter, but it is a general caution given by the bulb makers.
I just cleaned the lens real good and it's much better now. I'll have to check it out to night if it stops raining.
If you want extra lumens I would suggest an LED light like the Daymaker. If you really want to get the best try the 7" JW Speaker Model 8790 - it lights up the corners as you lean the bike! I just upgraded to this light and it is the absolute BOMB! It should fit your RK - all you'll probably need is the adaptor harness that Harley makes.
I'm pretty sure you're bike runs the exact same H4 light that's on my bike. I recently installed an OPT7 headlight. I am having excellent results. I tried the Fuel Moto and it was an epic failure in my Road King.
One thing to consider. Once you pull the headlight, CLEAN the inside. Over the years they can fog up on the inside. That alone can drastically cut light output. Again, this OPT7 really is bright, but unlike many older attempts at drop in H4's, this new style seems to really work well in my 7 inch housing. I get a good light pattern on the ground, and high beam goes forever. And at 3500 lumens.... it's darn bright. I'm pretty happy.
I just did this exact OPT-7 lamp, and I also cleaned the inside of the lamp.
This is so much brighter than stock. It's all about being seen now that I am commuting to work with all the crazy cagers. Would also recommend it.
I am not a fan of the projector style lamps on a RK. This is a nice alternative.
IT IS ALSO PLUG AND PLAY FOR YOUR YEAR RK. SUPER EASY INSTALL.
I"d also like to know if the bulb swap will work with the stock '15 lamp assembly which has two bulbs.
My brother put the H9-H11 LED bulbs from Fuel Moto or Eastern Performance, I can't remember, into his stock two bulb bucket on his Limited. Direct bolt in. And we did a side by side comparison with a factory Daymaker bike. And they flat our whooped the Daymaker. Ten minute simple swap job.
Just wanted to give a helpful update. I was out with my prospect tonight, and he has some '15 Limited whatever bike..... but it has the Daymaker headlight stock. So I lined our bikes up for a quick comparo. My OPT7 vs the Daymaker. LOL, he was crushed like the proverbial grape. My 2013 is the stock headlight bucket with the Amazon OPT7 drop in bulb. My bike is the one on the right. Not even close.
