Will it hurt anything if I change from Syn3 to amsoil. I like the reviews I have heard about Amsoil. Thanks for the replies
No problem swapping from one to any other motor oil. Amsoil is fine, as is Mobil 1 and a host of other fine synthetic products. Take your pick based on availability and price. As for Mobile 1, the 15w50 is also fine for your HD and is about 2/3 the price of the V-Twin 20w50 variant.
I run Amsoil and to tell the truth I had thought about changing back to Mobil1 cause I thought that my oil got a little discolored quicker, at least thats what I thought, but when I changed my oil at 5600 miles it was still slick as can be, no grit and actually pretty clean after I drained it out, I also cut open my filter and there was not one piece of cam tensioners in the filter and my bike has 16,700 miles on it, we did the same to a freinds bike at 15,000 miles and his filter was full of tiny pieces of orange tensioners, he used Mobil1, now Im not blaming Mobil1 at all, but I really like the way my oil pressure does on Amsoil when it gets hot, it seems to rise a little, almost like it thickens just a tad, maybe to a actual 50wt like it suppose to, anyway either one you choose will be fine, my choice would be 1st-Amsoil 2nd- Mobil1, no other choices.
I'll be changing from thedealer-installed Amsoil to Mobil 1 when I do my 5k service. Never saw any reduction in engine temps and the tranny noises (whine in 5th & "rocks ina can" in 6th) got worse with Amsoil. Amsoil might be good oil, but in this case I believe I'll be better off with Mobil 1 or OEM.
So what your saying is that you put Amsoil Severe Gear 80-140 oil in the tranny and the Whine got louder? Or you put in Amsoil 20-50 and the whine got louder, as it should with a 20-50 weight oil. Just asking because your the first one i've heardwho said the whine got worse if you added the Amsoil SG 80-140.

Dealer put Amsoil Severe Gear (don't know the exact viscosity) in the transmission and the whine in 5th got louder, and the 6th gear "rocks in a can" sound, that wasn't there with H-D's factory oil, suddenly appeared.
OK I just put Amsoil in the Crank 20/50 and Trans SVG 20/140 and so far I haven't had any real changes from the Syn3 except I did notice that "the little bit of whine in 5th I had" does seem to have gone away.
I went with Amsoil because I counldn't find Mobil 1 V-twin anywhere without mail ordering and it would have been more $. Not at Autozone which BTW I live in Memphis where there HQ is, Walmart or any other place I looked except for a Victory who wanted $10 a quart and I paid less for Ams.
So Amsoil dudes when do I get the secert handshake and how long before the manna falls from the heavens, dancing girls, come on give me something here but keep the Koolaide
I even joined the Prefered customer thing and I got a folder full of stuff but you think they could have at least throwed in a sticker but nooo....
