Just seems so odd that one wiring instructions or what not doesn't just work

So you never said....have you tried resetting the radio. There should be a reset button right above the USB port at around 2oclock. It's a small black button. Won't hurt a thing to try. My Sony will get a little wacky every once in a while. A reset takes care of it.

I was able to just plug in the stock HU...all the buttons worked like champ....grrr

I actually have the 315bt...I looked up specs on Kenwoods site and said nothing about steering wheel controlled...is this why??
