None of which do you any good when you break down 1,500 miles from home.

I use my bike to travel. Knowing that if anything happens when I'm out on the road is covered (as well as my tow, my food, and my lodging) is well worth the thousand dollars I spent on the ESP.

Take into account how many miles you ride and how long you plan on keeping the bike. The newer touring bikes mostly have hydraulic clutches, that infotainment thing and some have the water cooled engine with radiators and pumps and hoses. There's a lot more things that can break than on a pre 14 bike.

Bought mine near end of factory Warranty as I knew bike was experiencing engine failure but dealer would do nothing.

45 days after factory warranty expired catastrophic engine failure due to lifter issue.

Cost to repair greater than warranty cost.

Luck counts

I don't quite know how to answer your poll. I bought a used bike that the PO had bought the warranty and I had that warranty transferred to me. So I guess I did buy the warranty.
The PO did use the warranty for a complete engine rebuild when the crank spun. $50 deductible. I don't remember what that invoice was, it's at home, but this alone paid for the warranty.
I have used it for a new voltage regulator - $50 deductible, invoice in the $300 area.
And for a front master cylinder rebuild and a throttle roll off cable replacement. $50 deductible and I don't think I even looked at the invoice for that one.

FWIW, the extended warranty is really more like an insurance plan than anything else. As a general rule I don't buy extended service plans but this bike came with one and it has served me well and it certainly helped the PO out.

I didn't buy one on my latest bike purchase personally, but thats because it was not offered on the bike. That being said, my dad purchased a 05 Ultra Classic a few years back and it is always parked next to mine in the garage. He rides a pile of miles and takes road trips out to the coast. Any little think from fender tip light to fendertip light that he noticed throughout all the miles he put on it he had fixed. If it was a small thing he would wait until he found another small thing so it added up greater than the $50 deductible. Granted he never had to use it to fix a major failed component all the little things adding up to the bikes 70,000mi made it well worth it!

First bike I bought from a dealer was a 2009 Ultra. Other bikes I have had have been bought from private owners.
I bought my 2009 in 2011 (I think) and bought the extended warranty. I got my money out of it.
Brake switch (before recall), two compensators, starter. Rear valves and all that goes with them. Radio and antenna...
multiple oil leaks, tour pack cushion. I may be missing a thing or two. The Harley dealer was washing it more than I did.
I now have a 2013 FLTU. I have used the warranty very little, but I have ridden much less since owning
it. I was hit by a pick up March 4th and it has sat for three months....so there is three months of warranty gone.
When it comes down to it...with a warranty, you may not need it. Kind of a gamble, so flip a coin.

He was great to work with. I think i got the five year and tires. I've had to use it once. I had my voltage regulator go and at about 35000 miles. it took care of everything with ZERO $$ out of my pocket. The service manager where i take my bike was impressed. it paid their labor, not an average for the area, diagnostics and parts. no questions asked. The stealer manager said "this is better than Harley's plan, you don't have to pay the $50.00 deductable. I just turned over 46000 miles on my 2013 FLHTK (Geezer Glide Limited). i also have purchased, through the dealer prepaid maintenance plans. i ride enough that it more than evens out for me. i know a lot of guys do their own maintenance.....i don'. every time i try to do something, not just on the bike, it turns to FUBAR. so, i let them do it. costs me less in the long run. so, its worth it for me. not for everybody, i understand, but it gives me peace of mind riding the daily gauntlet of the washington d.c. area beltway knowing i can get it pcked up and taken to my, or the nearest dealership right away.
Anyway, thats my story and I'm sticking to it.......
