Bad enough dealing with the dealer when it is new.

He was great to work with. I think i got the five year and tires. I've had to use it once. I had my voltage regulator go and at about 35000 miles. it took care of everything with ZERO $$ out of my pocket. The service manager where i take my bike was impressed. it paid their labor, not an average for the area, diagnostics and parts. no questions asked. The stealer manager said "this is better than Harley's plan, you don't have to pay the $50.00 deductable. I just turned over 46000 miles on my 2013 FLHTK (Geezer Glide Limited). i also have purchased, through the dealer prepaid maintenance plans. i ride enough that it more than evens out for me. i know a lot of guys do their own maintenance.....i don'. every time i try to do something, not just on the bike, it turns to FUBAR. so, i let them do it. costs me less in the long run. so, its worth it for me. not for everybody, i understand, but it gives me peace of mind riding the daily gauntlet of the washington d.c. area beltway knowing i can get it pcked up and taken to my, or the nearest dealership right away.
Anyway, thats my story and I'm sticking to it.......

I bought my ext on my 04 thru Jim but Now he can Not sale to any bike reg in Calif? So, in doing your math from above and comparing to the Harley prices. I got my 7 year with tire and wheel from 'Emerald HD in WA' for $1999 IF I could have gotten that from Jim - it would have been $1348 + $325 = $1673. Close and I know, his has no co-pay = however, Not available to me... For the price I paid for my 2015 Ultra Limited an extra $1999 for 7 years is fine with me. I bought my 04 new and got the 7 year and then ext that two times.. I not quite broke even over the 11 years cost vs repair - However, when I went to sale the bike with 80K on it AND 16 months left on the Warranty - that Warranty help to sale the bike in a flash.. I may or may not keep this current bike those 7 years but the warranty will surely help to sale it

Well obviously they're making money on it, which means on average the consumer is losing money on it. That's just business. Every restaurant that has free soft drink refills is doing the same thing.

What you're really paying for is convenience in an inconvenient moment. Something is wrong, just drop it off or have it picked up and it will be fixed. No question over what will they discover and if the bill will be manageable or more than you can manage just then.

I did not buy one, but at a little over 25,000 mi. and just less than a week pass my factory warranty , my water pump failed. A dealer near me called HD to see if they would help, and they did, luckily, Diagnostic's showed three possibilities why my engine light, Temp light were coming on. Thermostat, coolant sensor, water pump. After the first 2 were changed ,it ended up being the pump. Over $900 in parts, and who knows how much in labor, It has me thinking it might not of been a bad idea to purchase it. But i also think i may be able to repair it myself, if it were to happen again. If i were out on the road when this happened, it probably would have been a nightmare

I bought a 2006 vrod, and the rotors were warped. The ext warranty paid for the repairs and the rental bike. Total was around 600 my out of pocket was 50. I also bought a extra year on a used 2015 RK but haven't used it. When it almost expires I will probably look into buying another. 1 repair and the warranty pays for itself I.m.o.

I bought one. My new 2015 SGS is full of electronics and sensors. A lot of guys have had there left handlebar module go south. That's not an easy task. And if I were to misdiagnose something like that - it gets expensive quick. I have a service manual and I can pull codes and change fluids, plugs and pipes... but it's the diagnostic part of the process that can make an extended warranty look cheap. Start replacing the wrong parts and you can have 2 yrs of a warranty paid for. From what I remember, it wasn't too expensive.

This is what I have done as well. Bought the T&W package also and with 1400 miles used it once...already right side up on the T&W package.

I figure in the 5 years following the factory warranty there is a good chance I'll need warranty work.

I generally ride 15k-20k a year and have purchased the plan on my last 4 bikes. Have had enough repairs done under the plan, that I've come out ahead. Yes, they are a profit maker for the company who issues them, but a lot of that profit comes from people who bought a 7 year plan, sold the bike in 2 years and never requested a refund & the new owner doesn't even know the bike has it. Surprisingly, this happens a lot.

Despite what a dealer may tell you, the price is negotiable. You may have to purchase out of state to get a discount, but its worth calling a bunch of dealers until you find one who will sell you the ESP at considerable savings. I just bought the so-called 7 year plan (a 5 year extension) and saved $900 over what the local dealer wanted. Personally, I think the prices are way too high for a one or two year extension, and I wouldn't consider them at all. A 3 year extension is iffy, 4 or 5 are are the only ones I would purchase. They have been very fair on refunds of the unused portion of the warranty in the past when I've sold a bike before the extension runs out.

Bought one for my 07 CVO Ultra, never used it. Didn't buy one for my 14 Limited. Have not needed one yet. Odds are I will come out ahead without the service contract, like life, I could be wrong.

They don't offer service contracts to loose money. Odds are in there favor. Service contracts are a huge profit center for dealers.
