Default Tuner Question

Hey folks, asking tuner questions again.

Been reading a lot on here about different tuners and factory warranty. We all know tuners void the warranty with the exception of the HD Street tuner.

I have read on here about how piggyback tuners leave no trace while some say ECM tuners leave a log file saying it was there.

I'm in Laconia this week, spoke to one of the guys from Vance & Hines about the FP3 which is an ECM tuner, anyway he said that's not the case. There is no log file created, so when you remove the tuner if you were to reload the factory flash there would be no evidence of it being there.

Can anyone verify this? I was thinking I'd have to wait till warranty was up but maybe not?

Thanks

I am not sure about the HD version of ECM programing. I know Chevy writes a log file in their ECM but I have not heard of HD doing it. Re-programing back to stock with my power vision was always the plan in the even that something in the motor let loose.

How does a tuner void a warranty? If your tuner fried the ECM then the ECM would most likely not be covered under warranty. HD would have to prove the tuner caused the failure. If the ABS module or TPS or infotainment system failed, how would the tuner cause that? It wouldn't and therefore those items would be covered under the warranty.

Void the warranty? I thought some dealers sell and install the Power commander also, have dyno's and install new stage 1-4 systems. I think it depends on what failed, if the mod caused the failure than that would not be covered but if the failure was not due to a mod than it would be covered.

I had read there is no logging of a flash tuner, or piggy back when installed.

According to my dealer tuners void warranty, all except the Harley Street tuner.

They say it stays in the ECM memory, I'm not totally convinced though. Lol

Straight from the V&H FP3 FAQ website: http://fuelpak.vanceandhines.com/faq.html

Will the Fuelpak void my warranty?

Answer: Some dealers will still honor the factory warranty after a Fuelpak installation, but some will not. It is up to your dealer. Often the dealer will honor the warranty if you pay them to do the Fuelpak installation.
