Default Tour Pak Rear Speakers - Help!

I just picked up a new-to-me 2000 Electra Glide Ultra Classic. It's got all the bells/whistles and they all work, or did work at first. I installed a quick release kit for the trunk. In the process, I disabled the CB and intercom because I don't plan on using them.

I coiled up all the tour pak side of the wires under the seat. Under the fairing, I installed an HD antenna for the radio and disconnected the CB/intercom plug and the CB antenna (all by advise from my local HD tech). When I remounted the trunk on the new brackets and reconnected the 6 wire connectors for each rear speaker, the rear speakers now do not work.

I've adjusted the fader - still no back speakers - front speakers work fine. I'm assuming I've caused this problem by disconnecting the CB/intercom, but I don't know for sure. I've done a bunch of searching, but can't find a fix.

Has anyone run into this and/or have a solution? Thanks everyone!

I don't know if the 2000 model is the same, but on my 09, the switch on the dash for the speakers has 3 positions. There is a position for the front speakers, a position for the front and rear speakers and a off position where all speakers are cut off. If your 2000 is the same way, maybe you bumped the switch and now sound only comes out of the front speakers.

Mine does have the 3 way speaker switch, which does seem to be working properly - it rotates into all 3 positions and does shut off the front speakers. It also worked on the back speakers as designed before I disconnected the CB/intercom. I am thinking that the stereo system needs to see some sort of signal before it will allow output to the back speakers and somewhere I stopped that signal.

Process of elimination, start at the front and work toward the speakers check all wiring for loose connections, splits, pinched......good luck.

I would go back and check all of the connections you messed with and see if they are all secure. Maybe plug the cb back in and see if the rear speakers work again. I wouldn't think that would have any affect on the rear speakers but you never know how they have things wired.

Problem solved! Thanks guys, you were right. I plugged the CB/intercom back in and the rear speakers now work. I just wish the Harley tech had told me that before I had unplugged it. Thanks again everyone!

Glad you figured it out. You never know how the manufacturers wire thing these days.
In response to the Harley tech, they aren't always the experts they like people to think they are. I had a 2007 fuel injected sportster and it developed a whistle coming from the gas tank. My local dealers "top mechanic" said it was air in the lines. I told him that I looked online and there was a technical service bulletin for the fuel pressure regulator and the "top mechanic" told me that the people online didn't know what they were talking about and it was just air in the lines. The service writer got the fuel pressure regulator replaced under Harley's good will program and I never heard another whistle from the gas tank, only the usual fuel pump sound when you turn the ignition on.
