Cool Tour Pack / Passenger advice

So been searching for the right tour pack I want, found the swinebox, definitely set on it (will flow nice with my bike). Anyway I have a 2010 street glide, and no passenger back rest. The ol lady says her back/butt hurts after a 30 mile ride even. We are going to sturgis this year and i want it to be comfortable but i dont have much experience with the setup so here is my question and what i seek:

With my swinebox and the 2 up rack mount, i was looking at chopped back rests for it, but i am unsure approx where that would put the rest on her back? would she be able to kick back and actually relax? since the street glide seat kind of curves down off the bike, figured if she could kick back a little that should solve the issue? That also being said if I am on the right track, any particular recommendations for a back rest for the pack? Looking for a good deal as i am going to have quite a bit of money into just getting the mounts and pack alone.

Sorry for the long post appreciate any future replies, Thanks!

I think the seat on the SG is a big problem. You need to get a big touring seat, it has a wider rear seat on it with more padding. My girlfriend wouldn't even ride without a backrest. Said she felt like she would slide off the back. Small seats look good but not good on a along ride. Esp for the passenger.

I agree , the curved down seat is a problem. Looks cool but cool isn't going to cut it for her.

Look at your SG seat and how much seat you get to sit on and then look at what your "ol' lady" gets to sit on. Be fair to her and get a real touring seat for her. I am sure she will thank you. I ride my SG seat around town and on small jaunts, but after 100 miles, my bony tail is yelling at me. The Mrs. wouldn't think of riding on the stock SG seat, but has no issues with my Hammock seat.

If you are taking an extended trip, spend some money on a good seat for you and for her. The stock street glide seat is good for a day trip but is mainly for looks.

Oh and... better hope the "ol lady" doesn't see this thread.

All of the above!

The first thing that needs to be changed on a Street Glide if you expect your passenger to ride any distance with you.
I put a Sundower on my previous Street Glide, and the wife could ride that for hours.
The stock factory seat was only good for the first ride around the block. LOL

Stock factory Street Glide seat is fine for a rider only.
But it just wasn't meant for a passenger to ride for any distance.

Thanks for the replies! yes she read all these and says "SEEE I TOLD YOU" (thats what i get) Seat was on the agenda, i just felt that the pack and back rest would help that tremendously....I am going to need 2 more full time jobs to get all this done :P .

Her and I are not very big either, she is maybe 110lbs and 5'3 ish. So...that being said would one think a passenger tour pack/back rest "get me by" or her rather?

we just returned from a 1700 mile road trip on a SG with the HD chopped tour pack mounted fully forward, stock SG seat. Wife had no problems at all, 110#???? (I dare not ask exact) with comfort. When I 1st installed it, she felt she was sliding off the back of the seat, but that feeling went away quickly. Thinking maybe more of a change over the passenger backrest she had been accustom too. But, the chopped is further back giving her more space, so it is possible the lack of seat could be an issue. My riding buddy installed an aftermarket chopped TP on his SG. It is mounted even further back, even when adj fully forward, than my HD TP. He is going to make a plate to move his TP forward more, do to the lack of seat. His wife is also similar size as mine and yours. We both discussed getting a spare SG seat and having some foam added for a more filling passenger seat area for road trips when the TP's are used. As is, they are doable. Just room for improvement. Mine has the chopped backrest, his is the larger Ultra styled backrest.

If I was getting a trunk for traveling, I would get the biggest I could. Because it is for travelling.

I laugh at the chopped trunk. It will never be a chopper. It is big full dresser. Use it.

Esepcially if you are taking it off after the trip. Whih I don't.

Nice, its good to hear from someone with a similar set up as i will have. I felt like it would be okay as long as i had some sort of back rest, and i think her and i agreed on the wrap around style (i do like the chop look though) as it may give her more comfort/support. She hasn't ridden many miles on 2 wheels and i have slowly getting her hooked! Thank you
