I know...and it just may be English or metric or what we call a class 5 interference fit to keep it from vibrating out. Obviously not your system of threads. Why I would get it from Harley. Not a lot of people understand how complicated thread systems are. Even if it's 3/8-24 fine threads for an adjuster, it still could be class 5 and few are going to understand that.

I think the regular HD backrest set screws are 5/16 inch US with 18 threads/inch. Someone can verify, but you can start there by getting a bolt that size from your local hardware store.

Once you do get it, might be good idea to put a little nail polish at the end so the screw won't back out.

are there hardware stores in england? if there is go to one of those first and see if you can find something to work. i would guess and this is a total guess, the thread size being 1/4 or 5/16 inch.

Here you go..http://www.ebay.com/itm/Harley-David...dSP4NA&vxp=mtr

Looks like it is a common 5/16-18 button head...Get a Stainless one. Probably $2.00 but I bet shipping from US is a killer if that is your answer. Numerous times I have researched shipping for my two Ebay sites to Foreign Country's and it is crazy with terrifs and such. I have a winter place that I rent from a Canada Landlord and they want $35 just to mail a check over $500..(legally)

If you pick up 1/4-20 , 1/4 -28 , 5/16-18 , 5/16 - 24 you will have one that works. My back rests had one that was 1/4 and other was 5/16 just not sure of the thread pitch it's been a while since I used them.
