Default Road King Fender Support Bracket

Afternoon all!

I've noticed that my rear saddlebag guard rails flap about quite a bit, and in turn the silencer also moves around considerably. Looking on the parts diagram there is a fender support bracket which bridges each side (and looks like it gives support) but is only listed for the Road King Classic.

My only concern is the silencer movement may put unnecessary stress on the rear exhaust fender and the weak joint. My mates 97 ElectraGlide has the bracket on it - just not sure why the FLHR doesn't use it?

Think I just found the answer, my bike is missing the original "bumper", and should in its replacement have 91140-98A fitted!

You nailed it. The FLHR would have come with the bumper that ties it all together.

So I searched the forum and Google this afternoon, and by the looks of it 91140-04 should fit (its the later part), but I've just gone to put it on and it doesnt look quite right, plus the fender looks squished against the bracket....

Granted it could be that my fender is mis-shaped, but I am not sure?

Just had a look, and I wonder if my fender edge has been un-rolled, from what i can see on other pictures it should be flush, as you can see mine sticks out....

91140-98 is the correct bracket for a 2002 if you're going to use the one from a RK Classic and not use the bumper.

For sure, I know the part that the fiche lists, but I am trying to double check that the later part will work.

My mates 2005 RK Classic has the later bar fitted, and looking at the parts fiche our bikes use exactly the same rear fender - so I just can't see any difference that wouldn't make this work - apart from the fact my fender has that "lip" on the fender.

Looking at images of fenders for the Road King that lip looks flush against the tin and not bent out like mine - my mates 05 is also flush.

Just been out an cut about 15/20mm of the lip off, bracket fits perfectly now! Stuck a little hammerite on (the fender is getting tatty down that end anyway) and once dry will button it all back up!
