Default Brake problems

I have a 2003 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic. My problem is, when I turn the bike on, the brake lights are already on. When I hit the brake lever, the lights go off. Far from electrically inclined. Plungers on handle have been cleaned and loosened.

Have you checked both front and rear?
Does the front lever return fully out when released?
Try disconnecting the wiring at the rear brake switch.
I've read that the wiring to the light under the rear fender can be a problem., might want to check there.

the front brake light switch is easily broken if the right side controls are removed from the bike without a shim being used to protect the switch

----- this is common for anyone who doesn;t check the manual- a few guys have been able to effect a fix with a small scew or jb weld.

there are posts and pics here on the forums

replacement switch is about $60

welcome to the forums

Mike

has anyone had it apart lately ? isolate it to either the front or the back and then work from there.

I put a little jb weld on the lever. Works good as new. Change the switch but I have internally wired bars and don want to mess with it.
