unfortunately over the last couple of years Ive had a couple of surgeries that didn't allow me to ride. was supposed to head out earlier this month when my friend had a horrible accident which put our trip on the back burner. as far as having too much $$$$$$$$$$ apparently I was just informed this morning that the boss has decided to redo the front half of the house. Oh well, that just made me realize how much I love my 08! at least I get to keep it. Thanks for all your input . Apparently this is my last bike

I can relate,i also had back surgery in 2014 to fix L4 VERT that had 35-40% broken out of it which went well.

But unfortunately i have ongoing issues osteoperosis along with spinal stennosis & arthritis that as of 2wks ago kicked up pretty bad sciatica bad enough that i haven't be able to ride the bike for past few wks which isnt looking good for getting back on the bike anytime soon either, really sucks!

Ah maybe its good your keeping your low mile 08 that must still be in great cond with only 21k miles on it & putting the money into improving your house which is usually a good thing to do investment wise.

BTW,wife & myself did major home improvement project back in 2005-6 and that exp reminded me how important it is to stay on top of what the contractors are doing along with documenting / getting into the estimate & or contract-s everything thats promised to be done because if you dont 9 times out of 10 you will have issues later on.

Good luck with your home improvement.

Scott

05 Ultra with 145k. It's set up just how I like it. If I bought new I'd have to put another 5 to 7 grand in it to make it right. No thanks. I'll keep what I've got.

I had always wondered what kinda opinion would I get from Harley owners when this question is asked..I use to change bikes every couple of years when I was riding the pocket rockets just to keep up with technology but I've always had this thought that with a Harley it's forever but that wasn't the case when I got my first Harley(Fatboy Lo)...Then I set eyes on the SG and got that, now they have the Rushmore and I was eyeing it too but after reading the opinions here I think I should hold my horses.

I love my 03 but like you I sometimes get the itch. Mine's low mileage as well.

I talked to the salesman and when he told me it would be a $20k plus "upgrade" I ordered some Ohlins and a Progressive Touring Link and decided to keep what I have.

I have no payments and a great bike with one of my all time favourite colour combos. It would take a lot of changes to make me pay what they want for a new one. If I win the lottery however there will be a new RGU in the garage

I bought an '06 Ultra in March with 18K on it (Mint Condition with some tasteful add ons). Road tested several new bikes and they were awesome but with a few mods on the '06 am perfectly happy with it

My 2016 RGU is light years ahead of the last Pre new frame HD I owned. I liked my 2007 but each one sense has been better. And the Wet head RGU is out standing. No regrets and no payments either.
Nothing wrong with keeping the 2008 if you are happy with it. No reason you can't keep it road worthy for years to come.

I have an 08 as well and just want to warn you that the 16s are NOT any quicker with the weight gain over the years. If you got yours set up just right and there's nothing wrong with it, keep it.

I ride BOTH on a regular basis and can still pull away from work's 103's.

Motorcycles are NOT investments!

The more you spend on one (and especially accessorizing or customizing) is the more you will NOT get back.

We have all "over-improved" our bikes but that's simply to make ourselves happy, temporarily.

We have several bikes, but on my 2000 Ultra, I kept upgrading the engine, the transmission and chrome do-dads. All the time the bike was getting older and I was putting more miles on it and in the end, I really think that I would have been better off just adding a few "extras" to make it "mine" and either selling it or trading it in after three or so years as opposed to buying tires, batteries, etc., etc., etc.

I hate having a payment on a vehicle, but one way or another it costs money to play with toys.

I've bought my last two-wheeler ('13 CVO Ultra) do IF and WHEN I decide to make the "plunge" again it will be a Tri-Glide but I'm waiting for some real improvements and I'm in no rush.

Someone has to help keep the economy going!
