Too many people drinking the Ohlins kool aid and paying big $$$$ for a product that needs tweaking and rebuilds and then susceptible to a problem such as this (even if it was owner error).
Any quality shock needs adjustment and can be rebuilt. Note I said "can" instead of "have to". If you have a shock that can't be adjusted and can't be rebuilt, you have a piece of **** - period.
Susceptible? Any shock that has a threaded collar for preload has this as a potential. But it's hardly common.
As far as big bucks, Ohlin cost is on par with Legend, Progressive, or whatever other premium shock you care to site. If you buy through Howard, you get an even better price.
So yeah....I've been drinking Ohlin Kool-Aide even before I've owned a Harley. It's good stuff. But if you prefer just tossing some air in your stock shocks and you like them - good for you. Keep drinking that swill.
Great news, ohlins received my shock yesterday and had it fixed today and shipping out tomorrow. Said this time they will cover the repair cost, so no charge and I should have it in a few days! Now that's good customer service!

Not sure if Howard had anything to do with them not charging me after he called and spoke to Gary with ohlins, but if so, thank you very much Howard!

Have you ever priced real suspension? I'm talking 3 way adjustable suspension for not just pre-load but compression and rebound damping? Progressive sells a set a 2 of way shocks for more than what a 3way adjustable Ohlins set up will run. Ohlins are fully serviceable and rebuild able. Have you ever read the service manual for your bike and realized Harley calls for a front end rebuild in their service further down the road? Harley stock shocks are like throwaway razors once you wear it out ditch it and grab a new one.
I would buy Ohlins from Howard in a heart beat . I only mentioned the anodizing as a possible trouble maker since it gave us night mares before we went to the hard anodizing . Motocross motorcycle shocks are built the same way , they just use a steel adjuster to help destroy the threads completely with no chance of recovery . When I buy Ohlins I will generously lubricate with a teflon product and be aware of the grime on the threads before I start cranking on them .

When I was racing ATVs (hare scrambles through the woods) I had $1500 worth of Stadium Shocks with ressies, compression/rebound adjustments and triple rate springs that were rebuilt/re-valved by Jet Suspension to my weight and riding style (dual rate spring picture below before I went to triple). I never once had to worry the threads being messed up or not turning and the quad was caked with mud after each race. When done with a race I'd simply hose it down and if the collars were a little hard to turn I'd hit them with WD-40.
All this talk of making sure the threads are totally clean and using some type of special type of blow gun before turning adjustment is crazy talk to me. My quad saw more dirt in 1 race than 100 bikes will in a lifetime. I adjust the Fox remote ressies on my snowmobile all the time as well and don't worry about the crap on the threads and they've been turning just fine for nearly 10 years.
For my Street Glide I put on the Monroe air shocks and Viair pump and it rides 10x better than stock. I can also adjust on the fly and for 2 up riding all for $200. Not a better value out there than that, in my opinion.
Howard, good on you for helping the OP out when you didn't have to. I didn't get the impression that he was bagging on you at all in his post and simple said he didn't blame you for not helping because he didn't buy them from you. Good customer service even though he wasn't your customer.

You are welcome. Your case was discussed and decided the morning you called at 8:48am. I told you to call Ohlins after 9am. When I read what you wrote, I smacked my forehead & wondered how did you fu@k that up? Problems happen when too many people are involved and the project gets too loud. I am glad things worked out for you in the end. Now you know you never knew anything about me in the past. Too many assumptions.
I hate to say this but I think getting them to warranty it now is pretty much out of the question. You know what you should have done so there is no point in beating you up. We all live and learn.

Should have read all the posts as Howard got him taken care of free of charge and he wasn't even Howard's customer.
