Default What to tighten up before a trip 12 Electra Glide Classic

I am going to take a 2000 mile trip on my 12 Electra Glide Classic with 4000 miles on it. What should I tighten up before leaving (please don't say everthing lol)??
Also if something has Loctite on it already and you re tighten it up say a year later does the Loctite loss its strength or does the Loctite still do its job?

Loctite is generally good until you crack it loose, but you should still keep an eye on them as part of your preventive maintenance. A good pre trip inspection is always good before any trip. I believe the operators manual does have a pre tip check list that should be good as a starting point.

Only problems I have had are the bolts for my foot boards and the top bolt on the Jeffy Stand. The foot boards probably came loose because I didn't have the right torque wrench when I added extenders. I haven't had an issue since I loctited them and torqued them to spec. Always look at axles and fork bolts as well as engine and exhaust fasteners. A lock washer spreading is always a good indication of a nut or bolt coming loose.

Change your oil and check your tire pressure, pack up the bike and head out. 4K on a '12 is nothing and you should be good to go.

I would check belt deflection in case it has gone out of spec, and rotate the tires and look for any cuts, or nails. Cant think of too much with only 4k on it though.

Thanks for the replies.
I am abit nervous as I am used to shovels where I had to stop and tighten everything at each gas stop lol.
I recently read a thread that said the exhaust hangers on the tranny bolts can come loose but was not sure what years that was for?
Is there a thread that lists a lot of the torque specs for the common spots like axle, exhaust, ect?

Yes, there's a nice thread that lists torque specs for everything in your service manual. If you're that nervous, I'd recommend it. There are no "years" for looseness.

Pinch bolt on the shift arm that attaches to the tranny.

Saddle bag fasteners.

Battery terminals.

Add: all the shifter linkage.

Are you going to do the 5000 mile service on it half way thru your trip?

I'd do the 5k service before leaving. That should cover everything.

But, don't forget the nut that holds the handle bars.
