You are the 3rd person to recommend modifications to the seat I have.
I am going to look for an upholsterer local to take a look. 1" would make a huge difference

I bought an 09 this month, had about the same issues you do.
I'm 5'7" + (on a good day).
I have read a lot of posts about buying aftermarket seats.
A lot of them (most) bought multiple seats so went with the modified direction.
With that said so far I love my seat. Takes some getting used to.
To say it fits like a glove would almost be an under statement.
I am still get used to getting positioned when I first get on the bike.
Once you get past that its great.
A HUGE side note: make sure you get a price in writing.
I was given a quote before I went (gel inlay, cut to fit me)
The price was double by the time I went out the door.
Was it worth it, so far yes. I will know better in late Aug (Lolo pass ride).
Until then it's all mainly back and forth to work and short day rides.

Mean City cycles for me. I just got mine back and have 200 miles on it so far and it's awesome. Got the Double Decker memory foam mod on driver and passenger and added heat to both.
