Default What do you use to take of Mufflers

When I swapped my stock mufflers, they weren't so easy to twist off. I eventually worked them off but I remember thinking at one point, that I might not be able to finish this simple job. I'm thinking there had to be an easier way. Maybe one of the rubber straps you use on oil filter for the car or something? Also, do you need to replace the clamps, or can I just reuse them.

How do you guys get them on and off without killing yourselves?

There's really no easier way other than working them around once you unbolt them and loosen the clamps. Go side to side up and down and around until they break loose. As far as the clamps, you might be able to get two uses out of them. But since they're relatively cheap I'd put new ones on.

They usually don't "twist" very easy.
But working them back and forth while pulling on them works pretty good.

As for the clamps, it is usually recommended to replace them.
They are classified as a one time use clamp.
But I have used them again without issue.

If you have a leak at the connection or the mufflers won't stay tight, you can then replace them.

I use a 4" bolt threaded into the hanger so I get some leverage to help with twisting and pulling. I have a socket I use to tap into the inlet to expand it back to original dia so they slip on easy, and I always use a new clamp.

I keep doing that until they come off.

The WD-40 should help a lot. Be careful not to put too much lateral force on the head pipes. Don't want to damage them.

I spray some Wd40 at the edge where the muffler goes on the pipe. As you start working the muffler off, you can actually push it forward a bit to get onto the Wd40. This helps a lot. I also use Wd40 on the muffler and pipe when reinstalling. If a particular muffler gives a hard time coming off(usually the RH side), I leave the rear bracket bolted on the muffler but not completely tight. Use a small piece of 2x4 and place it against the front of the bracket. Then take a hammer and tap the 2x4 and watch the muffler come back slowly as you tap it.
