I'd just like to thank everyone here. I've done so much research and much if not most was done right here on the HD Forums. I am the proud owner of a 2007 FLHTCU. I was hesitant of all the info pretty much everywhere regarding the loud tranny and extremely hot motor. Of all the complaints made, I can't say I have read or heard of the tranny problem breaking down for repairs....just too loud for some. I'm happy to report (knock on wood) that my transmission does not make any excessive noise at all. Is the motor hotter than my '01 Honda Shadow? You bet and it should be!!!
I'm definately a newbie in the HD world but I'm learning more and more everyday. My only issue at this time is getting the Ultra to the shop for the 1,000 mile check up. On my third day of possession (May 7th) I had 600 miles on it. I called HD dealerships and the best I could find was a date for June 4th. The service manager stated to bring it in around 1,000 for the oil change and the warranty would still be honored. I did that (used synthetic HD) at 975 miles and now I have 1,700 miles on it. The only problem now is that the bike will 'hesitate' and missfire on occassion. The occassional missfire is tolerable but the hesitation is not good, especially when starting from a standstill and making a sharp turn..... I am certain the two issues can be easily adjusted at the check up.
I am extremely happy with the Ultra. Thanks again for the many tips and info right here in HD Forums.
My '07 has the Stage 1 kit minus the race tuner, which was on back order. Instead the race fueler was added with the Screaming Eagle slip ons. Other options are: Rider back rest, detachable tour pack, LED lights on the motor for night rides and the fairing mounted mirrors.....for now!
Glad to hear that we were a big help to you in your buying decision. Now, keep us informed as to how everything works out with your new ultra. We can also be a big help with your accessory buying needs.
congrats on the bike!!! just had the 5000 mile service done on mine, just a tad early (4500 miles on the clock), 'cause I'm going on a 1800 mile ride this Memorial Day weekend. Was gonna add the PCIII, but held off.
Anway, sounds like your setup needs a bit of tweeking for the hesitation. That's the part that worries me if/when i have the PCIII installed, as some have reported the same thing after the PCIII install.
Enjoy your new ride, and hope you checkbook is padded, cause the fun has just begun!
Congrats on the new ride, I have an 07 Ultra and love it. Had a Heritage before, so it was a little warm at times setting on the oil tank too. You'll love the Ultra.
Congrats, you made the right choice you are gonna love it. And everyone here will help when you have questions.
I had the dealer come and pick mine up yesterday for the 5000 mile check up. I had scheduled the service about a month ago because they are busy. This past weekend was the best weather we have had so far this spring. Well I had planned to ride all weekend but last Friday I woke up and couldn't hardly move. I pulled somthing in my back and spent all weekend in a chair with heating pad taking muscle relaxants. Went to the doctor Monday and got a shot and a ton of medicine. Hopefully my bike will be completed in a day or two and I can ride this weekend. The forecast calls for rain. Just my luck. Anyway doing the Indy miracle ride next weekend around the Indy 500 track. Can't wait but most important the ride is for MDA and Riley childrens hospital in Indianapolis.
I just got back from a week in the Smoky's on the first extended ride on my 07 Ultra and had a great time. I rode the Dragon both ways on Monday and rode it both ways again Wednesday but had to ride it back in the rain, something I don't recommend especially when you can see the rainbow of oil floating on the surface of the pavement.
The only thing I miss about my metric bike is the water cooled engine.
