I'm not complaining, just looking for the impressions of the more experienced moter heads on the forum. I'm riding a 07 Ultra, no mods and about 1000 miles on her.TodayI've noticed a high frequency rattle from the right side of the front cylinder, it sounds like there is a marble got loose in there. Definatly not tranny noise, and its most noticeable at approx. 3000 rpm, getting louder untilI shift.
The bike is going in next week for the first check. Should the bike go to the shop earlier, or is it OK to keep riding, just keep the revs down??
Sort of sounds like something is loose on the bike. Check your air cleaner, floor boards, maybe the right hand lower air thingy and see if something is loose. Check the screws that hold the fairing, and maybe driving lights and other things.
Valves are hyd... Don't need adjusting....
With any engine noise - If it wasn't there when you first rode off - take in to the dealer it's under Warranty!!!
Hey I got this new 07 Ultra and it sounds like the front jug is coming off the bike and the head fell off. Should I just keep runing the hell out of it or take it in now. LMFAO.
YOU HAVE A WARRANTY. HERE METAL CLANGING. GO TO DEALER !................................................. ......

An Internal rattle.. if it is in fact up high in the motor, in otherwords if it sounds like it's comming from the middle of the jug, is not a good sign, it many times means that you have what us old wrenches used to call "piston slap". This can be caused by an issue with the wrist pin, or the wrist pin bushing. I have seen a rear piston,wrist-pin bushing literally half-gone on a 2000 Road-King with 20k miles on it. We split the cases in my garage on my buddies bike cause he got tired of chasin that "Rattle". He had put in new lifters, etc tryin to get rid of it but it persisted. His bushing had pulverized by 50% almost to the exact middle of the pin. It was probably caused by running in a Lean condition too long. He had the old M+M fuel injection unit. His motor was stock except for slip ons. I would not go any long distances without findin out what your issue is. If it seems to be gettin a little louder the more you ride it could well be a piston-slap....good luck and let us know how you make out later....Joe Mac

Many thanks for all the positive suggestions. Not being mechanically inclined, I took your advice, Started the bike in the garage, revved it and listened (which isn't easy when you are half deaf). I finally found the air cleaner so loose that I was surprised it didn't fall off going down the road.
Anyways, thanks guys.......
Glad you didn't lose it! It wouldn't hurt to give the bike a good going over to be sure everything's good a tight. And, don't forget to check the odometer reset button -- it has a tendency to come loose and fall into the fairing -- don't ask me how I know.
