JUST PURCHASED A 2002 FLHRI BIGBORED TO 1550 WITH STAGE 2 KIT AND S.E SLIPONS.. WITH 19000 MILES... ITS RUNNING KINDA ROUGH AT IDLE, AND WHEN IM JUST CRUSIN AROUND 25-30 MPH... THE BIKE WAS SERVICED BY THE DEALER IN 10/06 WHEN IT WAS TRADED.. FOR THE 20,000 MILE. IM NEW TO THESE F.I BIKES.. IVE RAN ALOMOST 2 TANKS OF 93 OCTANE TROUGH AND NO CHANGE... PLUGS ARE KINDA WHITE!FILTER LOOKS CLEAN.... NOTICED ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRYING TO JUST BLOW IT OUT A RATHER ODDFLAME OUT THE PIPES.. JUST WHEN RUUNING IT HARD...OTHER THAN THAT WHAT CAN I CHECK BEFORE I GO BACK THE DEALER AND BITCH...
Wow, flames blowing out the pipes! Wish I knew more about it, but I'd say it needs some work. There are some great resources on here, so I'm sure you'll get some good advice.
Man if you have flames coming out the back of a bagger that has a full exhaust on it you got some problems. And I'll tell you that, that ain't normal. Do you know what if any after market fuel management device it has on it?
I HAVE NO IDEA. ALL I KNOW IS ALL THE MODS WERE PUT ON BY THE DEALER WHEN THE ORIGINAL OWNER PURCHASED IT NEW IN 2002.... WHEN THE FLAMES CAME OUT I WAS RUNNING WELL OVER 100 MPH AND IT ONLY HAPPENED WHEN I BACKED OFF THE THROTTLE.ALSO NOTICED SOME YELLOW FROTHY OIL INSIDE THE AIR BOX THAT DRIPPED DOWN ON THE CHROME COVER BELOW... AT HIGHWAY SPEED 60-70 MPH IT RUNS REAL SMOOTH.. BUT AROUND TOWN IT BEEN POPPING.AND IDLING REAL ROUGH.. IM A CARB MAN THIS A BIG CHANGE FROM MY 95 1200 SPORTY...
First of all, when posting, don't type in all capital letters.....implies that you are shouting! But if I had flames spewing from my exhaust tips, I'd be shouting too...............
Seems you have a air/fuel ratio issue on your hands. Does the dealer have any service records on the bike and/or the previous owner's name? Service manager should be able to ascertain what the heck is going on if he has any salt. Call your sales person, have him/her take the task to the service manager and get that bike back over there for diagnosis and results in your favor.
sorry about the caps thing im new to this....would the fact that the bike had been sitting at the dealer with fuel in it since 10/06 have anything at all to do with whats going on? ive ran almost 2 tanks through of 93 oc... is there any fuel adds that i can try? Does my esp cover this issue...?
Since you have run 2 tanks through the engine and it is still emitting flame.........it's a no-brainer.....get the bike back to the dealer before you possibly damage something.....and it'll be more difficult to get them to take care of the monetary end of it if you delay. Time is not your friend here.
