Don't think I've ever heard of floating calipers so not sure on that. They do have what I think they call the semi-floating rotors. They have the one small round "button" on one of the rotor legs versus the full floating rotors which has one on each of the legs or spokes of the rotor. Not too sure how else to describe them.

I had a similar noise. Mine sounded like a piece of leather hitting tin. It was a wheel bearing.
