Default Metal rub sound when front wheel is rolling

When my front wheel is rolling forward or backward, I am hearing this metal wheel squeel sound like my brakes are rubbing or the wheel bearing is going or something. I have had it to the stealer a few times and they keep telling me that it isn't the wheel bearing and that is is common for harleys. it just doesn't sound right to me. it didn't do it when i bought it. it has gradually gotten worse.

have any of your bikes ever made that higher pitch metal squeel sound when spinning the tire? Is it common or are they full of crap? Any solution to correct it?

my wife's FB does it, and so far it has just been the brake pads touching the rotor

usually I just tap the brakes and it clears it

I had this on my springer. It was the bearings. Replaced them and it went away. If you have a jack, lift it up take off the front brake caliper and give the wheel a spin. If no noise then the brake, if still has the noise probablly the bearings.

Most bike do this at times. I would look at this first as the noise, probably normal.

That sounds like brake pads to me. Get some Lyndall pads and pop them in. Then see if ti still does it. My bike did it with the stock PM pads in my caliper but once I switched it stopped compeltely.

I started to notice a shiney ring around the left edge of the tread on mine, and found out the tire was rubbing on the wireing going up under the fender to the fender light.

Sorry to bump such an OLD thread, but my recently purchased 03 Night Train does this. When I simply roll forward or backward I get this rubbing sound from the rear wheel.

I tried it on my 2010 Iron XL883N and it does not do the same thing. I was slightly worried so I did a search and came to this thread. Seems like it could be normal? I haven't actually checked the pads, but the previous owner said it was going to need new rear brakes soon.

Try the idea from the previous post of pulling the caliper off and rolling the wheel. That way you can determine if its bearings or pads.

Does it get louder or does it go away when you apply the rear brake. If so then you might need new pads. Also might check the drive belt alignment as it could be rubbing on the side of the driven pulley on the rear wheel and if that is the case you will need to re-align the rear wheel assy. There are several threads dealing with the alignment of the rear wheel along with a good article in last months, I believe or the month before that, American Iron Magazine.

I have the same problem on my 2002 Heritage classic. I took off the caliper and it went away. I have asked other people and they say its normal. My buddy had a sporster and it didnt do he just traded it for a Roadking and it is doing the samething to him and the dealer said it was normal.not sure but I will be changing out calipers and rotors next year hopefully it goes away.
