Default My past rides - how I should have bought a bagger first

I know I should have started with a bagger like the other post says, but here is my longride to where I am today with my07 Ultra. The following is my list of past rides:

1976 Honda CB360T - learned how to ride on this $250 bike, sold for $300 6 months later

1996 Honda Magna VF750F - Nice bike, to small, but overall I liked the V4 thing, Sold due to being short of finances. Rode for 2 years, 7000 miles. Bought for 7K, sold for 5K

1982 Honda CB500 Silverwing - after 4 months without abike I was desperate and paid $400 for this ride. I suppose it was better than nothing, but it did not have the hard bags on it or the trunk. I put 5000 miles on it mostly just for transportation. It was a bit embarassing to ride. Sold for $150 after it developed a starter problem that was not worth fixing. It was roll started by the new owner and crashed the next day.

1974 1000C Sportster - Rode like a death trap, ample power, suspension of a log wagon. Bought it for $2500, painted it, cleaned it up, tuned it up, sold it for $4000 2 weeks after got it on the road. Funny thing is I got more compliments on this ride than any up to the point?

1983 Honda V65 Magna VF1100C - $800 dollar bike, very fast, not great for 2 up. Sold for actual profit with a $1200 selling price after a good clean up and tune up. Put about 3000 miles on it in 2 years.

2004 Honda VTX 1300 Retro - Bought it new, spent 3000 in accessories trying to get it to be a bike it was never going to be, a touring bike. Had custom HOK ghost flames, was very sharp. HD big straight pipes sounded good. I kept it for 3 years and 13000 miles. Married by this time I found that I ended up riding a lot for fun and taking longer and longer trips, cussing the small amount I could pack. Traded in on my new Ultra. I got $6000 trade in. I suppose it was a good deal.

2007 HD FLHTCU Ultra Classic - Had no intentions of buying a bike this year. Stopped in Bloomington HD in Indiana and started looking (again). Had a great salesman who offered a demo ride for the wife and I. After the ride the wife pushed me to do it. They made an offer we could not say no to. 2600miles later including a 1100 mile 4 dayride here I am.

Finallycompletely happy with the bike I am on, now if I just had some pipes, and SERT, and..........

What about everyone else? I know for some that are older than me (I am 31) your list may be to long to write out, or remember.

Default RE: My past rides - how I should have bought a bagger first

I feel ya. I was out on the Road King today thinking about all my old bikes and thinking how I'd finally found the perfect bike for me.

1991 Honda CB250- I bought this bike because it was exactly what they taught us to ride on in our motorcycle class. I kept it for about a year, put about 3000 miles on it. It was ugly and little, but I was broke.

1993 suzuki VX800- I got tired of riding the little 250 and traded it for the VX. The VX was a great bike. Lots of torque, and it sounded COOL to rev it at the red lights. I bought it with 16,000 miles and rode it until it had about 24,000 two years later. I traded it because things were starting to wear out on it.

1999 suzuki katana 600- I wanted something new and fast, so I traded my VX800 in for this bright red Katana. I was never happy with this bike. It was too heavy for what little power it had. It would go fast, but was uncomfortable to ride. I put about 9,000 miles on this bike over 3 years.

2001 kawasaki ZRX1200- I traded my feeble Katana in on this used monster of a bike. Those of you who are familiar with the "Rex" know what a geat bike this is. I put about 4,000 miles on my rex before the wife crashed on it and totalled it. I miss my Rex to this day.

After my wife crashed my ZRX, she said that I should get a new bike to replace it. So, I did. I went and bought the bike I had been wanting all along. Now I have my beloved 2007 Vivid black Road King.

Default RE: My past rides - how I should have bought a bagger first

Started riding when I was 13. I got pulled over by a LEO, and of course, didn't have a license. He came to my house the next day, on his day off, took me to the DMV and registered me for the class. Not sure how he did it, but I had a license at 13 yrs old. For 100cc and under. Got the over 100cc for my 15th b-day.

Honda 50cc moped: Mother bought it for her to compute to work. She never did, and it became mine. Riding it to school in 8th grade. Yeah, I was cool.

Honda 250cc dual purpose (not sure what kind): Great bike, had a big sissy bar on the back. Man, I thought I was cool. Was stolen from HS parking lot. Guess somebody else thought it was cool, too.

Yamaha 250cc (not sure what kind): Was a Christmas gift. Kick start only. Had all kinds of electrical problems. Once taped a flashlight to the handlebars for a head light to get home one night. Sold it for $100 bucks. Think MOM only paid $250 for it, but it was completely used up when I sold it.

Honda 250cc rebel: Finally a bike I thought, at the time, looked like a Harley. Bought the bike for $1500. Was stolen one night, and the thief primered the tank. Paint was still wet when I got it back, less than an hour later (lucky). Rode that bike for a long time. Was way to small, but it was a lot of fun. Sold it for $800 bucks. Beat up, and rode hard. Wrecked several times on it, but nothing to bad. Except one incident that I should have surely died. Sled under a moving truck. Sold it the week I meet my wife. Almost 12 years ago.

Harley rk custom ('05): My current ride, and everything I ever wanted in a harley. The wife made it happen for me, and reminds me daily of it.

I took a long time off of owning a motorcycle. But over the 12 years, the wife and I had rented numerous Harleys, or traded my truck for a friends motorcycles for the day when they needed to move something. I never gave up on my dream of owning a Harley. My wife swore I would own my own before I turned 35. A promise she kept. I have had my rk custom for a year this month. On June 10th, I will turn 35. I got it a year early. Never had the money for it, and the kids and wife took priority (as they should). They wife and I paid cash for my bike, soI am lucky enough to have no payment. Thought last month about getting a SG, but have shelved that idea, for the time being. If I get a new bike, I will have to finance the difference. My beakon is a lowly 670. So, I am sure I would get raped on interest. So, for now, I ride the king, and love every minute of it. But, I think I need a second job. The wife is real pissy with all the money I spend on it. "aren't you satisfied to just have a Harley", or "aren't you done buying parts for it". Nope!! Never done buying parts. But, I do love the bike, and the little woman who made it possible.

197? Honda CB360R

Fast is all I can say for this little 350 at 16 was a fun little bike and thought it was the cats *** to have six gears (Ironic that now agianmany years latter I would be thinking the same thing!!!!) Wasfalling apart and junked at 17.
1982 Honda CB900R
Got this at 17 and it needed paint and tires 300$ I think Rode this one until I met my wife! I was 27 or so (I hope she never ask if I remember the day we met!!!) This is one bike that could take the abuse I tried to blow this thing up and I dont ever remember changing the oil!!!! I put lots of tires on it loged many miles (I used to like riding this one in the rain when it started I would get on it and go!) Sold it for 500$
1985 Honda V65
I had this for only a month or so as I lost second gear. Fast!! Got it for 300$ needed lots of cleaning Paint and such Sold for 900$ even with 2nd gone
1987 Yamaha Venture Royale
Nice touring bike a little top heavy never liked the feel of it owned for a couple of years Paid 900 sold for 1300 after I painted.
1999 Honda Valkrie
Paid 4100$ for this one wrecked. Needed crash bars and paint work beutiful bike when I was finished. I never really got comfy on this bike seat was crappy and talk about having hot legs on a Harley this sucker would burn your legs through your pants if you got anywere near the valve covers!!! I had a Illegal shall I say southern american immigrant turn right from left lane in front of me caused 5300 dollars damage!!!My insurance paid me and went after apperently his (how hehad any isfunny to me) Fixed it for far less then half myself and sold for 7000$ on Ebay By the way this will be my last rice
01 Harley FLHTPI
FUN FUN FUN is all I can say about this bike. I love to ride it Wife wants to Kill me because it a=is all I talk about doing!!! I will probably log many miles on this one!! I got caught in the rain a couple of times and it is fun to ride in it but a pain in the a@@ to clean it later!!! I let my Dad take it for a 20 mile ride and he came back and said he likes it a lot better then all the goldwing had over the years!!! And he even likes the loud pipes after giving me crap for putting them on!! My first Harley and I will be hooked forever I cant wait to see what 2008 brings as I got preapproval form the bank to make that leap if I chose to do it!!!

Default RE: My past rides - how I should have bought a bagger first

Life started for me when I learned to ride an old KT100 trail bike in theearly seventies when I was eight years old. A year or so later the disease started and here are the list of bikes i've owned and ridden to date:

1972 Honda Z50R
I was 9 years old and this was my first mini bike. Three speed auto and all! Wish I still had one...anyone with a spare Z50? $$$

1976 Yamaha YZ80
Bought this with my own money at 11 years old and rode it hard. Had a PSI pipe, Cheng Rear, and lots of plastic bling. Prepped me for racing when I stepped up to next bike.

1980 Yamaha YZ125
Bought this one brand new and started to race local events at the age of 15. Rode with famed motocrosser Kim Hood a few times (we were neighbors and practiced together a few times) and often raced with another big moto rider named Harold Huska. I was an intermediate as I didn't have the big factory sponsored budgets, but ran strong as an independent.

1982 Yamaha YZ250
Rode this one just as hard and raced many regional events. Won a couple races but started to learn more about broken bones, wrecks, and eventually left motocross racing as my knee's were banged up.

1976 Yamaha DT400
My first street legal bike in an enduro that had me riding wheelies all over the neighborhood where i'd grew up. Cops were always chasing me around and this bike was pure trouble.

1978 Suzuki GS400
My first true street bike and the one I got my license on in 1981. Didn't last long as the thing was so wimpy I couldn't wait to get off of it.

1980 Suzuki GSX750E
My first real performer. I added Saladin Pistons, Comet Clutch, Reworked Carbs, Dunlop Tires and rode this thing to within an inch or so of death for 3 years. It was a fast bike.

1980 Suzuki GSX1100E
Bought this one a few years later as they were slated as being the best factory performer of the day. Rode it for a couple years and then traded it in onmy firstGixxer.

1987 Suzuki GSXR 750 Limited
My first real race ready street bike. I had the solo seat, Kerker 2 into 1, and went through many a rear tire on this little screamer. Rode it until 1990 when I sold it to get ready for a long distance move.

2007 Harley Davidson Sportster XL50
After a 17 year hiatus from bikes, I bought this one for the wife, but rode it for 8 months before buying another for myself. This one has had some mods and produces 80HP/80TQ with some drag inspired looks. (Cafe style)

2007 Harley Davidson Street Glide
This one is my new pride and joy and was purchasedfour weeks ago. It was just torn down and the 107" kit is being added as we speak. It should make ponies well into the 100/100 club, and I have also ordered some billet wheels, a king tour pac for long hauls, and new Mustang seating to keep me comfortable. This one is a blast to ride and I love having road tunes to keep me groovin'

Ride on folks!

Default RE: My past rides - how I should have bought a bagger first

Ok, here we go:

1970 Honda 90 Scrambler -hey, it would go 60 mph!
1974 Suzuki 250 GT - didnt know it had 6 speeds tilmonths after I bought it
1975 Norton 850 Commando - a monster, great bike, crappy Lucas electrics
1978 Suzuki GS750 - nice bike, would go 125 mph thru the Mobile Bay tunnel!
1993 Harley FXR - first HD, made it a hotrod, great bike, fastest HD I ever rode
1995 Harley Fat Boy - Ok bike, no complaints but I never really liked it
1996 Harley Softail Custom - Bought in Oz, rodein Oz, a great bike in a great place
2007 Harley FLHT - Love it, real quick (considering its carrying my now fat ***)

No way I could have afforded an HD first, let alone a bagger. I remember my Norton cost 1/2 a years pay my first full year in the Navy. Anyway, I wish I still had all of em!!
