as above it depends- they are "of a time" if you are trying to make you rbike looks '50's then maybe so.
Probably inspired by cowboy movies, studded and jeweled leathers, bags, belt etc were big for awhile.
Here's my '53- this is all correct, the rectanglular studs on teh back of the seat and there are "spears" elongated diamonds on the side skirt- 1 a side.
the studs on the bags are original ( DeLuxe !) as are the spoons on the sides. white piping and white fringe.
My 2014 Road King came with black studs on the seat. When I bought a passenger back rest pad, I got the studded one to match. I like them and really don't care whether someone else does or not. It also had some Willie G skull bling that I didn't like, so I sold that and replaced with something I liked.

Though there's not a lot of data (statistically) yet on the seat stud vote it's currently showing 80% " NO STUDS " vs 20% " for studs " .
That 80%/20% looks as though the avg HD rider/owner would not opt for studs on the seat on their bike.
So far that's falling right in line with what i encountered trying to sell a seat with studs for an HD.
Studs arent an issue at all " IF " you never try to sell the seat, but if you try to sell the seat it can reduce possible buyers by approx 80% right off the bat which is what happened to me.
That resulted in me loosing considerably more loss of money when i finally got 1 offer on the seat after trying to sell it for over a 1yr here in Hdforums,Ebay,Craigslist @ less then half retail cost for a seat that was still in basically new cond with only 600 miles on it @ the time.
Putting classic/Antique 50's style HD's that came stock with studs aside (totally diff story & good reason to stay with them) bottom line on the OP's current non classic/non antique HD reff in this thread is if the OP know's he will never want to sell the seat then he should go for the studs if he like's the look.
But if there is even a remote chance he would sell the seat at a later date then he should not get studs because it would make it a lot harder to sell not to mention likely having to let it go for less money just to get rid of it too like was my experience selling an HD seat with studs.
