Pull it off, if you can easily spin the b@lls, there's your problem. That little movement makes it clunk and resonates through the frame to the bars. Took me a while to figure out. Thought for sure it was my steering neck bearings.
If it ain't the stabilizer then check to make sure the fork tubes are tight in the triple tree
Mine had come loose on the lower tree on one side , not enough to effect handling but to make the kind of clunk you are describing
I've got the same thing going on with my bike. I tightened the neck bearing and the fall away is great no more shimmy without hands on bars but now a clunking sound as I hit bumps. Say I come out the driveway to the curb and a clunk as I transition from curb to street and then good. I have progressive springs and SE fork oil. Would love to cure it.
Check to make sure your fuel tank mounting bolts are tight. If they are even slightly loose the tank can raise over a bump and come down on the backbone of the frame causing a clunking noise.

Front brake calipers bolts? Rotor bolts? Head light loose? Good suggestions by others here too.
A rubber mallet can be useful to diagnose things like this. Start at the front axle bolt and give a light wack with the mallet. Listen for anything that rattles, bangs, bumps, etc.. Work your way along methodically.
