Question:
Does anyone have a video or words of wisdom on removing and replacing the ignition housing on a '10 UC? NOT the IGNITION SWITCH, but the ignition housing... I know what the manual says about R/R'ng it, but just wish it was a little more understandable.
What Happened:
While checking the rocker switches under the rear fairing cap, I saw that the ignition housing was broken... broken like cracked in half! Everything had been working fine and I have no idea how the housing got cracked and is actually in two pieces now!
Of course, once I started wiggling it (to see if it was completely in two pieces) and noticed about tablespoon of grit like sand poured out of the bottom of the housing, I figured I better put this back together and get it to my mechanic.
To shorten this up once it was all put back together, I found that the ignition switch would would not turn all the way to the right and the forks would not unlock.
Just to qualify this... yes, I know how to remove and replace the ignition switch into the housing. I know all about lining up the lugs and have done it many times.
I believe that wiggling the broken housing has caused a problem of allowing the switch to fully turn and engage the ignition. Whatever it is, it obviously needs to be replaced.
If you have a manual and know the correct way to remove and install the keyed **** assembly it will be easy. After you remove the **** and fairing cap it's a couple of bolts and an electrical connector.
OK... Job is finished... Much easier than I anticipated.Your'e right CNCMIKE. 2 bolts and a wire connector. The sand (I'm guessing) got into the housing because it was cracked in half and there was a gap of space between the two pieces. The inside of the housing was filthy! I wonder how it lasted so long, lol.
Got it all put back together and works like new....!
