Default Destroying the ignition assy

Greetings in the new year.

2001 FLH

Last year I wrote about using the wrong barrel key in the ignition switch, and jamming it. Switch problem never resolved. I cant get any barrel key to work in the switch. With that said, can I get away with using a dremel tool to cut away the ****, to eventually disassemble the switch for replacement?

From my understanding, if it isn't locked, turn the forks full left and put the switch in the locked position. Under the cover, there is a button that you depress and the assembly pulls out. I know that instruction say you need the key, but others have said it may still come out, without the key.

It just might be worth it to have a locksmith take a look before you start cutting it up. The smith may be able to get the key to work.

I hate that. Did the same thing with a storage cabinet and tool box. Switched the keys and wow what a mess. I had to destroy the lock and buy a new one. Of course that was much easier and cheaper than what you are dealing with.

Like mentioned above I would check with a locksmith first. You never know what tricks they have up their sleeves.

Good luck

Peel the sticker/decal off the top and there is a set screw under it that holds the tumbler in if I'm not mistaken. Replacement sticker p/n is 71466-03

I haven't pulled the sticker off of mine since it's no longer available- He and I are on the older style ignition ****. There may be a screw under there, but you'll likely not get the decal back on and looking good.

Sorry didn't notice the years of your bikes. But he is talking about cutting it off so the sticker isn't going to be used again anyway.
And they do make switch covers for those years. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1993-2005-Ha...-/141274718080 Do a search for 1993-2005 Harley Touring Ignition Switch Cover on ebay and you have multiple choices.
What sux is now I'm shopping for one now for my bike because they are pretty cool.

I ran into a guy at the top of a mountain - overlook parking lot - and he had jammed his barrel lock probably the same way. Was an 01 as well.
The ignition was locked and he had no way home. Tow truck was 3 hours away.

I ended up begin able to grind the little pin off his key using the ground (concrete) so he could insert the barrel into the lock any way he wanted to.
Bike unlocked right away. He was very happy and then accidentally took my camera which I never saw again - was on his tourpak. Good times.

Ok, got the set screw out that was under the sticker. What magic is next? Barrel assy will not turn still.
